Winterizing question - fogging

Last year when putting her away, I filled the fuel filter with 2-stroke oil and ran it til it started sputtering and then shut it down. Anybody else use this method, or have others?

Merc service manual has two procedures - EFI with VST (vapor separating tank), and EFI with Cool Fuel System. I've got a 454 Mag, which fuel system would it have? The fogging procedure is different for the two types. I know I have the combination seawater/mechanical fuel pump, so I'm assuming I don't have the Cool Fuel system? If so, it would seem that I did the wrong procedure..... Lol

Service manual says to "shut off the fuel supply" for the Cool Fuel version, then run it. How does one do that?

Thx!

Puzzel, when you pour antifreeze in do you pull the thrmostat housing and pour down block or just fill up through the large hose on the left that goes into the waterpump on the front of the motor?

If the fuel pump is on the seawater pump you do not have Cool Fuel. If you had it, it is located on the lower port side of the motor.

Hey Kragar,

I do it through the T-stat. For that, you'll need a new housing gasket each time, and I reccomend changing the Allen head bolts out for stainless hex head bolts. I'm very glad I did, makes it much easier to access.

You're lucky, you get to do it all twice! Lol
What are you using for antifreeze?

VST has a big " box " at the back of the intake by the distributor the cool fuel system has an electric pump on the left side of the engine by the front motor mount with coolant hoses running into it

I winterized my h2x today, I took the filter/water separator of and added some stabil and two ounce of two stroke oil and ran the boat up to temp drained all the blue plugs reinstalled and ran 8 gallons of antifreeze -50 rv/marine, until it came out the exhaust, I really didn't notice any smoking from the oil? Should I pull the plugs and spray with fogging oil? I expected to see some smoke from the 2 stroke oil

I definitely noticed more smoke when I ran the 2-stroke oil through. Also, this should be your last operation prior to shutting the engine down. I wouldn't bother with the plugs..... Too much hassle on a V-8..... Lol

Are you guys using plumbing antifreeze?
