Does not matter if I drive it easy or hard the XR gears just wear out! Sometimes as early as 30 hours sometimes 80 hours. Now if I chop the throttles, or accelerate hard then back off fast then accelerate hard again I might break a vertical shaft, cone clutch, etc etc. But the gears just plain wear out!

+1 I couldnt agree with you more.

Whats even worse is if you live on the coast and do a lot of salt water/ocean running with constant 2, 3, 4 footers. Constant acceleration after each wave 100% effort, trimmed out running like hell.

...Bravos dont like it.

People say its all throttling but just the sound, aggression, and sheer adrenalin tells me that there aint nothin you can do to make that "nice" for your drives.

Nice boat and with triple 496 HO's it ran very well.

bajaholic 12-03-2012 07:07 PM

As stated it was triple 496 HO's. It ran 79.8 on the GPS. (under race conditions), was 75 mph all day long w/load and fuel...But just to be fair, when it was ordered we changed the X and Mercury fine tuned it at the factory.

The best part of the triple set up was the efficiency in which the boat ran. At cruise speed, it had better fuel usage than our 33. WOT, well that is a different story. The boat handled great, had plenty of room and always recieved compliments every where we went. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

this make me currious how bad a 442 would be with tripples in comparison to the 342

Ask Bajaholic. He had the above pictured 40 with trip 496's. He claims the boat did very well on fuel at cruise speed. Eddie had a 47 Beak with trip 500's. He could be a good source of comparable information as well.
