H2x power recommendations
Some may remember my issues with my stock 7.4 mpi needing to be rebuilt when I purchased the boat. To make a long story short I have never been happy with its performance. What power reccomendations do you have to get the boat into the 70 mph range? Should I stick with an efi setup or buy a motor from a builder that is carbureted? How much will it cost? I was thinking of the Ron sporl 555 mpi any recommendations? I am planing on adding hydraulic steering as well.
Thanks Larry |

Thanks Larry http://www.crockettmarineengines.com hes in michigan read alot of possitive feedback on this forum about him he might be able to wake up your 7.4mpi or build a new one another thing you can do is sell your 7.4 put some $$$ on top and buy a 502mpi or 502 carb used and just drop it in that will get you in to the 70's IMO |
new motor
I had the 454 mag mpi 385hp in my 2000 H2X ran 68mph gps... the merc efi engines don't like being worked. I put in a 583 CID monster and am now in the 80 MPH club! Happy i went that route and shelved the motor as backup or when I sell the boat.
good luck and enjoy, and get some hydraulic steering at the same time! RYAN |
What kind of HP is that 583.

@z06vette1 was told 650hp, hoping to get in on dyno this year. Got it from HTG motorsports in Grand Island New york.

I am not sure your budget or anything like that but keeping your motor and buying maybe an hp500 carb takeout is an option. If its Lower hours you could use it for Afew years and if you want to upgrade boats, take it out put in your 7.4 sell the boat and sell the motor. The 500s hold their value realitively well for resale or even selling the boat with that engine would be a selling point. Plus everyone loves a blue motor! Can run the heck out of them for hours on end with no worries. Just an option. That would put you in your 70mph range easily I feel. Once again if I'm wrong I apologize.
