I plan on weighing mine when she is back together. Weight as tested, Powerboat 1996 6900# dry. Two 100 gal tanks and no water. No head, sink etc. Pretty spartan. She flies nice and carries the bow well but not flighty. As said if you bury the tabs it'll just cut through them. Your welcome for a ride any time. If I don't make it down there your welcome to make a trip up too. Up at midnight drawing paint schemes so I am making an effort to get it done. LOL

Full Force, I agree with you on that. In my eyes, the 3 things that make a boat ride better is more deadrise, more length, and more weight.

There are pros and cons to both. With a skinny boat like the y2k it is more prone to leaning while underway and rocking form one side to the other. Where in a wide heavy boat this is not as much of a issue. In a heavy boat you are more prone to needing a lot more power/fuel twice or three times as many motors to get to the higher speeds. Wrong?
|
You are correct a skinnier beam will cut better. Good example is any 24x7 hull or a SVL. They will hang with boats bigger with wider beams. That is fact. But there are drawbacks also... Get some seat time in yours. Go run in some 32-35'x8 boats and you will see as the water builds they will stay ahead...
|
if starting from a stand still the y2k would be up and out faster too.

Well compared to a 33OL, 32 Fountain, 34 Scarab, and an older Formula that I don't know what model but close to the same size. The PP has the smoothest re-entry I have felt. It just seems to land soft. It does not fly like the Fountain, and again it felt softer then a 33OL. The PP and the OL were close in what I call cutting a wave when you put the nose down.
It does feel lighter than the Scarab and the Formula, but it should as it does not have as much free board as those two. But still felt very stable. |
After 33 pages I could use a fresh cocktail.
WTF is this all about? |

It was a old 80 something sig the guy had redone and did a very nice job on. It looked like a new boat. He stopped me and talked to me. It had twin supercharged 502s in it. He said it topes out at 70 witch seams about wright. He said him self that it was very heavy. I could be mistaken but I don't believe it even had any steps it it. It was still a really nice boat and was very surprised when he told me what year it was. It look like a new one!

I used to have some bath toy boats that could put a whoopin on the Bajas. The more ya splashed the rougher it got and the Bajas would stay away...
