Best of luck on your sale! Whoever buys it is going to have a greet boat that's done up right!!! Any plans on a new bat when it sales?

tbirdusa 03-26-2013 08:38 AM

Have any of you guys chasing the digits tried changing the X dimension? Don't even know if thats possible or an option but I was recalling that the IA dealer was infamous for doing that on some 30's and getting a better number out of them.
I know this is a 25 OL discussion but I must brag some about my awesome setup. Brace yourself boys, you'll all look like school girls after seeing my setup.

385 screaming ponies tied to a bone stock Bravo 1 that will sink to the bottom as fast as anyone elses on here. This beast of an engine is sucking 14.7 atmospheres at idle or wide open throttle.... how's that for consisitent ?? !!

The bottom of this 29 foot (a true 29 all you pozers) has been washed at least once a year and I use super slick Windex on my windscreen.
If I'm on the downhill side of a 3 foot cruiser wake I can see an honest 53. Well, 52.8 GPS but I fudge it a bit so I can say I'm in the 53 club.

I'm planning a big upgrade this year to an anodized steering wheel and maybe some new floormats if they don't scrub too much speed off my top end, I'll leave them in their all the time. I also have found a trick that many of you guys may not know about..... Run the chemical toilet empty and you can save like 6 lbs and pick up some huge gains.

Really though guys: I've enjoyed this thread and my hats off to you. Just be careful out there as the Baja brotherhood lost Shane a few years back in a smaller sized (think it was a hammer) Baja gettin' it real hard. Only met him a couple times but a nicer boat embassador there never was. Cheers !

Stephen

Hey Stephen, not sure if I met you beings that I ran the "Thunder Over The Lake" Poker Run in 2006 at the LOTO when PBP held it? I can tell you that Shane "Liquid Fix" Pierce was my best friend so you have my attention!!!!!!! Shane was a 1 of a kind boater and lived about a 1/2 mile from me. He died doing what he loved best racing me and others back to the "State Dock" at the Lake Cumberland Poker run in 2006.......R.I.P. Boys you better be careful tapping 70 plus in rough water conditions.......FYI! Looks like you wised up over the years with you new set-up Stephen.......:-) Anyways.......
I have raised my "X" dimension at least 2-1/2" and it has helped.....:thankyouthankyou: I have exhausted the idea of triple digits and the 90GPS game with my 25 Outlaw from all the drive and engine failures......:wizard:

Thanks again Rick! If it sales I'm thinking of striking a deal with a Hustler 29 Rockit. Same power would push me in the triple digits from our talks and have lots more room........ Don't plan on it selling since I've had it listed since last June.

also i told hydromotive engineering that i want the prop for tubing and knee boardoing and he said he could do all that

so i can't until the snow stops coming

send me your email and i will send you pictures of my boat by email

It gets old and is definitely dangerous , I have saw 100 mph in my 272, I also saw the water about 1 foot from my face sideways at 95 mph with boat in a spinout/barrel roll but luckily saved it so I tend to keep my speeds in the mid to lower 90's these days unless I'm in a pretty serious race, Smitty

BTW, hey Smitty! Ya'll want some real world HP and GPS numbers, Smitty will tell you some stories for sure. I have alot of R&D with 25 Outlaws but a 272 bottom aint no different.....IMO

My 272 ran about 65 (best) stock with 502 and perfect prop empty
Ran mid 70's with blown 502 and 28 pitch around 8 psi of boost
Ran 82-85 de[ending on load with merlin headed 502 turned waaaay up on the boost
Ran 89 loaded pretty hard with 4 big guys, 2 coolers and 3/4 tanks of gas with 950 hp, ran a best of 92 and change with same motor running light with 2 people
Currently runs mid 90's any day of the week with medium load at 1050 hp
Has ran 100 with 1115 hp pulley on it turning 32 pitch 6200
Set this motor up to run naturally aspirated also and by simply swapping ecu's and removing the blower belt-runs mid 70s that way with 650 gross hp running light and lower 70's loaded down with passengers, gas and coolers, FWIW, Smitty

What drives are you guys running?. I would think most Bravo drives are gonna be junk quick with this kind of power.

Also did any of you guys fix the hook on the bottom?.

I have a 98 Outlaw 25, and we put a motor in it last year and it went 68 with 3 broke rings and bad leakdown on Cyl 6. so we fixed it and ready to go now, maybe first start tonight

CDiPrecision 03-27-2013 12:59 PM

Oh also we raised the X Dimension to 1.5" or so(about 4" higher than factory setup). This may be causing the bow to plow, but it has a good amount of hook visible on the chines..so we are thinking of sanding that off. the rest of the bottom doesn't have that much, but exploring options.

Max machine worx upgrades in a bravo xr, I have a identical spare for when it breaks so I don't misss any boating while ordering parts. I do my own drive rebuilds and inspections every 25-50 hours depending how hard I been running it. I send my gears out to be cryo treated and iso rem finished and do this for customers when I work on there drives too, its a bandaid but I have too much invested in these drives now t switch and when I spent that money there were no other viable options besides the B-max which at the time suffered shifting and porosity problems and still used dtocke lowerb gears anyways, Smitty

Rwbrew3 03-28-2013 09:39 AM

Hey. Just curious as to what prop your running. I run a Bravo 1 28 and have seen 84 at 5400 rpm. When i get my engine back i have a 30 that I'm going to try out then maybe send to Brett @ BBlades for some tuneing. I also wonder how long my drive is going to last. Bravo 1 XR with -2 sportmaster lower.

You might have a tough time running a 30, I would check with BB Blades, on your drive, it is all determined by your throttling, your dealing with a lot of hp, its only a matter of time !

Scalded Dawg 03-31-2013 09:43 PM

Unless your torque can carry it, you will be better off with the 28 for it will be easier on your drive and probably faster....fyi. I'm running a very agressive 30 at 85 at about 5200 best conditions. I ran 84.7 with a greater fuel load, 4 people, less HP and not the best of conditions at 5500-5600. Why I'm going back to my 28/29.....

I can tell you guys when I run my 32 pitch the drive life decreases by 10 times as much! The less prop you run the less chance of breaking ****. I tried a 28 pitch maximus once and almost immediately sheared off a billet max worx prop shaft, fwiw, Smitty

The maximus I tried made boat roll right onto its side every time you gave it much throtttle and it would only run 88 mph at the time with it (ran 92 and change at the time). Prop c/l was about 5.5" and had a stellings box at the time. Stelling box killed the top speed and handling of my Baja and later tried a 2" imco shorty that KILLED the handling/speed of my boat also. My current prop C/L is 7.5" and it works well with 4 blade props, nothing elsee higher ever worked for me, Smitty

I'm going to be in the market for a 28, the one I had is being taken back. My buddy gave it to me brand new out of box, now keeping his boat nod needs it back. I have a 26 merc lab I would like to sale or trade. I didn't get enough time with that 28 to know if it would be what I needed.

i wasn't planning on selling, but anything is for sale for the right price. My fiance is ,(we have been ingaged for 12 years is for sale for the right price) all the head aches she cause me , for the right price i will rent her out, got to make money some where to put gas in the boat and beer in the cooler. just kidding women are all the same just different shapes and sizes, all have the same issues and complaints never happy no matter what

at least a boat is happy when you treat it right and will always start if you have gas and oil in it, it is simler with boats, i guess that is why they have chicken ranches in nevada

sorry for going of on a tangent about women, at least i am not on here bad mouthing another boat in a thread i don't belong in. i hop the boat bashing is done, i got tired of reading it ,
unless i get what i put into it i willnever sell my boat, i am happy with what i have and thankful for it.

do you really need a bigger boat where you boat? 38 ft boat is for the ocean with bigg waves, my boat is the nperfect size for my needs, my lake gets rough, it is the shallowest of the great lakes and turns at a blink of an eye,, i barely can aford to keep the gas in this one , i run 93 octane in becasue of the procharger,

i am happy, the bigger , they are the bigger the cost and it is harder trailering the 38 foot, so you are stuck at one location, you can't take it with you as easy, and 2 engines = more gas and more cost for everything, unless you are wealth like donald truimp or a movie star be happy with what you gotttt

j

i am not telling you what to do, but bigger is not always no always better especially when it is time to get it fixed

I believe they are in a hardship right now, but not a 100% sure on that. I have also been thinking about the formula 38, but I do not know much about either!

i think they are all in hardship with the economy and the price of them,, maybe if they dropped the price of the new ones they would suvive, look at the car industry, my father worked for ford for 35 years , look at how GM and dodge, went under, make the vechicles cheaper, and pay the guys the same and and you would sell more to more people, but the problem is the owners are greedy, well, greed will kill them in the end

formulas are nice to, very expensive,

do you need a boat that big for your lake?

i live onj lake erie, so it is like a mini ocean, you can't see land from 3 sides, from my pier, it is the shallowest of the last so it gets rough the quickest and we get westerly windes from ohio and canada alot prevailing westerly so i like my 1997 24ft 24 degree dead rise, it rides perfect in a 2 to 3 ft chopp at 75 mph , flat water my bvoat tidder totters , but lake erie is never flat, and then i use trim tabe son flat days to help the titor tooter motion side to side
