Picked up my new ride!

After 8 months of searching and a couple of budget ups I finally drug home a 2004 29 outlaw that I picked up off thosetwins! We are excited and I've already started scrubbing on her. Should be a good summer!!

T-RAV 04-19-2013 04:01 PM

thanks everyone! This thing looks like its going to be a blast to work on!! I guess i need to start my diet! It pulled really bad on the way home, found out yesterday that two of my axles are bent! So first thing now is getting the trailer safe or just buy a new one... Then I will continue the polishing...

Axels will be a lot cheaper than a new trailer.. is it dual or tripple? When I pulled mine back from Wichita to Biloxi with the trips I could hardly tell it was back there. I was impressed.

T-RAV 04-19-2013 04:32 PM

It's a triple, but its steel and I boat in salt water. I will prob just get the axles and get the year or so use out of it before it rust to pieces.

OutlawEd 04-19-2013 05:01 PM

Congrats! Let me know when you're on Travis. I think Busta is coming up next weekend, but we'll be sitting on the dock.....My boat is broke!

Thanks! As of right now all we have planned is the weekend of 7/12... But hopefully now that the boat is here our friends with the lake house will invite us a few more times!! They usually do labor day weekend too. Other than that it will be like family weekend stuff. If we can get away any sooner ill let you know.

Well at least you have yours.. Driving right now to get mine... Bout to come out of NC to VA!! Only 150 more miles!!! Total of 1000 ea way!

Left Slidell at 2:30pm yesterday... Following the storms!

Try to seal every hole in your trailer and maybe even fill will nitrogen. Mine rusted inside out b/c of damn holes in rear channel. Lasted a year down here but pulled great until it died!

nailit 04-28-2013 06:41 PM

T, hows the new boat coming??
We took ours out for her maiden voyage with the wife, no kids.. found some 2 ft's and it was a smooth ride..
Tucking the drives was smooth enough and then pushed the plane s down and it was sweet!! Big difference from our 25s!!

Crappy weather, muggie and over cast with some sprinkles, but I was on the lake!!:evilb:

T-RAV 04-29-2013 01:52 PM

Shooting for a shakedown run Friday. It's been slow since I've had to work so much to make up for the week I took off. I got the trailer put back together and rolling. Pulls way better now!! Sanded all morning before work, will start buffing tomorrow and wed. Thurs should do impellers, fuel filters, and oil change. Final clean up/ shakedown Friday. That's the plan at least!!

good deal... My butt is wore out after wetsanding, washing, polishing this weekend!! The extra 16 feet of sides hurt!! Oh and I also ran 2 new return lines to the tank (well, use T into 1)

T-RAV 05-06-2013 04:13 PM

Well with the north wind we had Friday, all the water was blowin out and we couldnt launch, so we just had lunch and drank beer by the water!! A close second!! Finally got out Sunday, there still wasn't much water but we made due. It was my daughters first time on a boat so I didn't push it very hard and we just stayed in Clear Lake. Weather was great, had a good lunch and hung in the swimming hole for a bit. Sea tow was quite busy pulling boats out that had ran aground. One guy even ran aground thinking he was doing good by getting out of sea tows way... Still have some odds and ends to take care of but she is coming along nicely!

sucks.. I did hook up a 3 bank charger complete with hardwired plug outlet in seat and fixed the constant wired to breaker power... what an idiot.. radio sounded like crap b/c it loss the settings each time you killed the breaker.. oh, and scotchguarded both tops!

Very well could have been those bushwackers!! I remember a lady falling off the front of a scarab one time!! Was that you?? I'm sure I'd remember your face! Sorry to hear about your ride!

BAYLINER32 06-25-2014 11:11 AM

i know. always something breaking on these big blocks. every since i turbocharged them been having issues. dont know much about motors, but im thinking about going back to the old dependable small blocks. have you had much trouble with your motors?

T-RAV 06-25-2014 11:19 AM

Nope. Not much trouble at all. But the are just stock 496 mags.

It's not a big block vs small block issue. It's a modified vs stock issue.

nailit 06-28-2014 09:05 AM

Travis, how are your props doing? Mine have been doing good. I think I need to tweak a lil though.
Weight, water, fuel, heat really don't effect my speeds much.

Wot at around 64-65 light and same fuel 1/4 with 6 ppl ran 63-64. Considering 3 blades ran 67.6, I am pretty close to being balance btw wot and cruise. 3750-3800 @ 50 with full fuel 4 ppl gear/beer and flat water.

I am considering sending back to get a lil more cruise... Maybe.... :daz:

BAYLINER32 07-01-2014 02:55 PM

t-rav. think i gonna look for a new boat and dump this one. What is your expierience with the Baja's you have had?
I am not a mechanic by no means, so any advise would be appreciated.Probably need to back to the basics, 25 foot, single motor set up.

Ok, I am not Travis, but I am on my 2nd Baja. First was a 25 outlaw w/454 mag mpi.

25 ol was an awesome boat and took rough water amazing for a true 25' boat. Most other brands don't have a true 25' running surface that you want in rough.

We loved our 25 and we love our 33 even more! Actually, we needed a cpl things a single engine 25 ft boat couldn't offer. I was considering a cc for most of the "wants" we needed.

Cuddy, head or enclosed head, longer to smooth out rough water with small kids in boat, twins for safety traveling out in gulf by ourselves, and more room in boat to walk around once stopped as everyone usually jumps up while I still have to set anchor, etc.

The 33ol fit the bill perfectly and we love our Baja brand. Best bang for the buck, not as fast as some, but very stabile and predictable regardless of size. Cruise speed keeps up with most at 50ish.

Out of my boat buddies, they all have faster boats, several in the 80s, but traveling with the ladies, wot is limited to short burst in very few canals we have.

imartin 07-01-2014 10:10 PM

Got a very nice 30 Outlaw for someone that wants to be the proud owner of a spotless, turnkey reliable 30 with HO's. Priced to sell and have darn near given away all my wiggle room! Well below payoff! Come and get it!!

T-RAV 07-02-2014 12:00 AM

@nailit so far I've been happy with the props still trying to get the right time to really ring her out, but overall I'm I've been pleased so far. @bay, we have been happy with our baja's, like nailit said, they aren't the fastest, but they are nice boats for the money. My beak buddy said he was surprised by the ride of mine during the TOC. I don't really care for being passed, but for what I have and what I paid I am happy with it. What kind of price range are you looking in?? Imartin's 30 will put you close to 80mph, if your looking smaller the 25 outlaw is a good boat or the 272, which is the same hull but has more space in the cockpit are good options, I will say the ride difference between the 25 & 29 are night and day for our area. There's also a decent looking 29 on Houston cl for not a bad price.
