Unless you want a little more speed and easier docking, the single 496HO is fine. I had a tech from PBC go out with me Monday to give mine a mid-summer checkup and we GPS'd 51.5mph at 4,750rpm on the scanner with my 22P Bravo prop and the ambient temperature was in the 90*s. Mine just turned 300 hours. These boats love bow lift but I get amazing fuel economy with the Bravo prop and I never have to use the trim or tabs to get it on plane.

AJ, thanks for the response. That 292 in austin is a 2004, has twin 6.2s with around 420hrs and bravo 3's. But he wants close to $60k without a trailer. Seems pretty steep to me so i'm just continuing to keep my eyes open. I'm definitely shooting for a 292 due to the "family" boat and speed compromise. I'm jealous that you and plowtown found yours!
They only made a hundred 292 Islanders (2001-2004) and 50 of them were 2001's. The good news is that they hold their value well nowadays. One downside to the 292's with singles is that at rest, the swim platform is pretty high off the water and the ladder could use another step. Look on Craigslist at Lake of the Ozarks. They sold a lot of them here.

Plowtown, I agree. The swim platform is very high off the water. You have a Bravo 3 on your 292, correct? I too do not use the tabs for planing although they come in handy for balancing as much of the seating is on one side of the boat.

I've got a Bravo 1X. I use my tabs to level the boat when we have a hard side wind hitting us due to how high it rides out of the water.

Plow - I'm not really sure which one of us should have the faster boat as you have the Bravo 1X and I have the Bravo 3. Any ideas? I love the Bravo 3 around the dock and loading on the trailer but you have an array of options when it comes to props.

Bravo 3s work really well on big single engine boats up to 65mph so the Bravo 3 is probably the better drive. If you get more GPS speed/RPM/drive ratio/prop numbers posted, I may switch over to the B3. I need to try my 21p Mirage Plus again (without 8 people in the boat) and get numbers for it.

Haha, that's my problem too, I can't seem to test the boat without any others on it! Usually have 10 people on the thing every weekend. Only time I get it alone is when I drop everyone off at the dock and the girlfriend goes up to get the tow rig and trailer to load it up. Next weekend when I'm out I'll get it up and running hard after I drop everyone off and get some good GPS numbers.
