looking at buying a 2000 baja 272
 

Well as u see ,my first post here and as I know from jet skiing forums are a great source for info
I went to look at a 2000 Baja 272 tonight and wondering if there is anything I should be looking for or anything that goes wrong with these boats to be aware of.
This one has a 454 with bravo 1 outdrive.
Were they all sold with the same motor outdrive in this model and year.
This one has 700 hrs on boat according to the computer although the hr meter says 1100.
The motor was rebuilt 200 hrs ago and the outdrive replaced with a new 05 model in 07
This boat is in immaculate condition, not a mark on the hull, gel coat looks like knew
Fresh water use only..and comes with an eagle trailer
What r these things worth

Make sure it says mag on the intake!! It should, dont think they put any mpi's in them.. looking at Low to mid 20's depending on condition. Any issues like vinyl rips/tears will bring it down etc! Good luck.

I would have a survey done on it if you re truly thinking of buying, It's not cheap but it could save you lots later!! Cant judge a boat by its interior, never know how hard they where on the sticks!! Just my 02....

I sold my 01 Baja 272 Boss w/496HO and 150 orig hours last fall for low $30's. Boat and trailer were like new and had the HO motor and super low fresh water hours.

I would say given hours and motor combo low to mid $20's is accurate on this boat.

I would also spend the money to have a survey done as well if you are not exactly sure what to look at structurally or mechanically.

272's are great all around boats and you will love it......best of luck.

These boats had several different engine choices in them...my opinion is the higher horse power option engines are the way to go as it will help with resale.

Moisture is the problem with these boats. It doesn't matter if the boat has never sat in the water or outside (like mine). They were never sealed at the factory. All the cut outs, screw holes and thru hull fittings on the transom were installed dry. The drain holes in the stringers were poked thru with a paddle bit leaving raw wood stringers exposed, by design? The bulkheads trap water (especially midship) and are prone to ROT.

Ask me how I know. Mine was rotten at 7 years old........GET A SURVEY!!!!!

As for power, the 272 is under powered (55+mph @ WOT) with less than 400HP IMO. It is a great boat tho.

Mine doesn't have any of those drain holes from the factory (at least in the engine area), (and it will build up water between the stringers from water draining out of the cockpit) but it is a 1996. In any case, I always keep my bilge and the areas above the stringers clean and dry after usage. Never had a problem. Even though the drains are useful, I guess I'm lucky that I don't have them. My transom is crisp everywhere you knock on it, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to seal every fitting, screw etc. on the outboard side of it.

I've heard of the drain hole issue in others' boats, and that's unforgiveable for the factory to not seal those.

I do have a soft cockpit floor though that I have to get to.

Mine is a 385 HP (bone stock) 454 Mag/B3, and does 62-63 on GPS.

Not sure where you are located, but a friend of mine has a very clean low hour fresh water boat with a 502, (400hrs) for sale. PM me if you are interested

He has had the motor rebuilt a few years back, and a brand knew 05 outdrive in 07, so mechanically I am not to concerned that it will be o.k. but I guess a survey would be a good idea for the hull. The graphics package is not as desirable to me as some I have seen or the interior colours ..
