Can you elaborate a little on the engine build? Like what are they and what compnents you chose?
|
What speed are you getting with the boat. I have a 89 280 sport running 84 on gps and it gets pretty wild over 80 mph.
|
Fastest I've gone was 82 at 5,000 while breaking in the motors still, they were built to spin 6,000 but I didn't get the boat done till the end of the season so I'll run her more in the spring if I don't sell her before then.
What do you have for power in yours?? |
I started with 420 mercs. then tore them down and rebuilt with 10 to 1 compression, roller cams, dart intakes, cmi headers and some port work. I gained 5 mph by putting on -2 imco lower units. You might try to find some used ones for this spring it should help with speed and drivability

I agree...... I'm looking for a pair of shorties now. How much hp are your motors making?
|
Never had motors on dyno. I'm guessing 525 to 550
|
Nice job - I had an 89 and a 90 both great boats - had it running high 70's - occassionally 80 but hard to keep stable - blue printed the bottom some but could never get it right
Curious if you did any bottom work, i remember pretty good hook on the lifting strakes and a rocker on rest! Good luck! Tom |
I'm actually embarrassed at the bottom of the boat..... It had bottom paint, this year I pressure washed some of it off and found lots of small damaged spots where the gel coat was chiped, the bottom still has the hooks on it (at least what's left of them) and I never got to finish getting the paint off by sanding. This spring I'm having the bottom blueprinted. It's hard to believe the boat ran as fast as it did with the bottom as it is. I'll also mention that the speed was on my GPS and IPhone's GPS app, and I saw 81 many times with the 27 Mirage Plus's with the tip mod. Sad part is if you do the math I don't the #'s are rite on and doing the bottom might not give her any more speed.
It does get a little scary around 71-75 but if you stay on it she pulls out of it. |
Boats going into the glass shop in the spring to blueprint the bottom, remove the hook and raise the X-dimension about 4-5" I think (need to do a little more research on height)..... Raising the X is cheaper than buying 2 shorties and I think the boat needs the drives up much more than 2 inches.
****** Any input on a good X-dimension would be greatly appreciated!!!!!***** |
I think Fleg went up 2 or 3 inches on his 320. I think 2" is a pretty good number.
