Think I found my graphics??

Ok, its a 36ol at pier 57 and I'm digging it! I need to keep my teal for interior. Blue, teal and yellow! Looks good!

Whatcha think? Maybe not running the upper lines all the way up front and change up a little to match the teal graphic lines on my sunpad.

mittens 11-28-2013 05:59 AM

like them. But that wont cover yours??

502ss 11-28-2013 07:32 AM

Paint or wrap?

nailit 11-28-2013 08:46 AM

Not sure, depends what I can scrape together and if we get bonuses in spring :-)
Would like paint but would wrap also.

Mittens, why you think it wouldn't cover?

T-RAV 11-28-2013 09:14 AM

Go for paint if you can!!! Doing a lot of the prep work yourself can save you some coin!! If you went this route wouldn't you have to change your interior??

90% of interior is teal. So would use teal on the side to coordinate. Only pink in interior is where the bolster meets the plastic on hand rail and can barely even see it. It was all replaced at some point (vinyl) and n great shape, so not planning on replacing. Eventually, I could match the hull better when the time comes.

mittens 11-29-2013 03:55 AM

I just think the line from your factor graphic would be in between the new lower and new upper graphics.

nailit 11-29-2013 08:19 AM

oh... I think I see what you mean, no... I would cover the whole side if wrapped.

I would change the green in the pic to Teal instead, then I would probably end the teal stripes at the windscreen or hatches instead of running it all the way to the front. Would still have to wrap the whole thing to the bow to cover the existing stripe.

I did think about wrapping just above the existing stripe though... its only 17' to the leading edge of the pink in current graphic but didn't know how ending the wrap there would transition?(white wrap to white gel)... would be cheap though!!

Doughboy 11-29-2013 09:08 PM

I like the graphics. But not above the rub rail and not up onto the windscreen

Agree, definitely don't like on the wind screen and if it were only the blue above it would look OK, but fading the yellow up too high. Would look better with it below! I would probably swap the green and blue and change the green to teal to match my interior and platform. Then I wouldn't run the blue (current green in pic) to front along rub rail.

Hey 502ss.. I am actually liking the graphics you have too!! Lil color in the back with big logo and run it up the front. Though I would still have to throw in some curves to match vinyl sunpad graphic.

Btw, great build on your scarab!! Lot of work that turned out great!!

Playing around with Corel photo shop?? What do you think? Kind of like no stripe to bow. Stripes suck but using trial version but you get the idea. Simple approach with minimal graphics?

offshorexcursion 12-14-2013 11:11 PM

I like the idea of more graphics towards the stern and less by the bow, sometimes a design like that makes the boat look longer. But not sure I am in love with that idea so far. Keep the ideas coming though!

nailit 12-15-2013 12:47 PM

What do you not like about? That was a really rough mock up of overall idea I had. I was trying to mock up what the existing stripes or at least most of them would look like if i extended them to the bottom eliminating th stripe?

I am up for any ideas, color schemes w/teal or where to shop for graphics. I found a site where I can get gloss white 3m 1080 wrap for 3-400 to white out the sides and reapply or add something to the rear?? Maybe like the painted version on the first post.. oh, I thought about the huge "Baja" or "Outlaw" graphics on side??

Anyone: Any ideas.. please post a pic.. on ly equipment is keeping the teal. Not opposed to stealing ideas :evilb:

mittens 12-16-2013 01:09 AM

Are you graphix faded? if not I would keep them.. they are not the ugly ones from baja... just my thotuhts.

then once they are faded then do a wrap.

nailit 12-16-2013 01:24 PM

Well the Teal is not faded. I am not particularly fond of the lt green and faded pink. Didn't realize how faded the pink was till I started wet sanding the crap out of it.. I also considered changing all to Teal, See below:
though, I do like the no strip to the front or I could give it a black shadow or curves also...

I will try to remove the Stripe and extend lines down to bottom of side and post later. EDIT: here we go... the addition lines are a little jagged, but you get the idea... not too bad!

Take this coming from a guy that has the entire side from rubrail down and back of boat wrapped. If you can afford it... I couldnt at the time; go with paint. Im always freaking out about getting a rip or tear. Now I have a few so dont care as much anymore. I still remember the first rip in the vinyl like yesterday.I wont let others use their fenders next to my boat because it could rip the vinyl. That means keeping cloth covered fenders on both sides of the boat in case a friend ties up next to you when away from the boat. Also the longer the vinyl is on the harder it is to get off. Like I said im broke so went vinyl hope this helps.

Thanks for the input.. I was actually just reading about that!! "Ppl putting fleece on bumpers" and my first thought was what about the other guys.. we always tie up together.

I will actually just be covering up the existing graphics partly b/c of that and not full wrap! Thanks

T-RAV 12-18-2013 05:54 PM

Why not just have the graphics that are on there shot with the colors you want. It probably wouldn't be as expensive as you would think just doing a cover up.

nailit 12-18-2013 08:38 PM

Didn't know you could just do part of paint on gel??

T-RAV 12-19-2013 09:43 AM

Turning the green stipe that is the length of the boat white, yes that would look crappy, but changing the color is no big deal. Any decent paint shop can mask, prime, and paint you existing graphics whatever color you want. Used to do it all the time at the boat shop I worked at through college.

nailit 12-19-2013 09:13 PM

I am going to mess around with the vinyl I have samples of this weekend and go from there..
will update and possibly take some pics. Had another color scheme thought, but need to match the green in vinyl, my teal sample is a little light.

Hello from the south shore. I'm in the same situation. My 95 boss still has the colors that were In style In the 90's. I've been looking to get rid of pink on the sides. Jus had the interior done and we changed the pink to purple , I'm looking to do the same on the sides.

well, the iphone 5 worked a lil better.. I pulled the lines up past the rub rail. I have the silver and black (or maybe carbon fiber), but trying to match the teal. Just found another distributor last night that I am trying to get a sample from.

offshorexcursion 12-27-2013 10:51 AM

Your so close its almost not worth changing anymore! Looks better and better the more I look at it. Great Job! Can't wait to see the final version

Looks good. Decided to go with bblade a after you talked me into cutting edge!! I just sent mine off last week.

nailit 01-26-2014 10:20 PM

I was about to send to cutting edge then I got promoted complete w/ raise and bonus so I decided I deserved it :-)
Also, I had already talked to Brett several times via phone and pm's after I tried different props and was to lazy to go search my posts for my #s while Brett had them already. Either way, we can swap test info after done :-)

mittens 01-31-2014 12:09 AM

so are you laying Vynal grafics just over the old? the white is just the factory gel?

also What props are you having tweaked... Any word what 27P 3 blades will do on our hulls?

nailit 01-31-2014 10:38 AM

Correct.. I buffed the hull with "Presta" and it looks awesome, then washed and then wiped down with alcohol before applying vinyl graphics over in gel stripes and line. I also alternated stripes coming down and extended them to the bottom. Still have to do above the rub rail in the back to extend up which should look great... work in progress :)

I sent the 24B1's I had traded out of the 25p m+'s. 4 blades feel a lot better and don't blow out around turns. Brett should be calling me soon to discuss, but tested the 24's and ran solid 64 with 1/2 fuel and me and end of summer.

Cruised at 3700 at 49 so if I can get 50mph back at 35-3600 and any gains on top would be the goal.
I had a bent blade that was slipping about 200 more throughout range so I need that fixed anyway and need about 150 to 200 rpms to get to 5k on top and trimmed the f&^k out. Still just over 10% slip and that was when I had to manipulate throttles to get in sync so I should be in good shape.

I had 9.7% slip with the M+'s but couldn't push them in summer heat.

To help with heat, I also added a blower to suck from the midship vent and blowing over the K/N intakes I put on and also fixed my exhaust blowers as they were shooting up against the sunpad and probably recirculating that hot air back in b/c the intakes are on side of each exhaust and the grill were broke and should have been directed back instead of up where the sunpad covers them. Fixed all of that so I am ready to see if it helped.

Hopefully, I can finish my graphics this weekend if the rain stays away!
