30 Outlaw Issues

Just curious as to any issues out of the ordinary anyone has had with their 30. I sold my 2003 25 Outlaw and am considering an 05 30 Outlaw. It has MAGs and wish it had HOs but i had a MAG in my 25 and it ran flawlessly for the three years i got to enjoy it. PROS CONS thoughts and ideas....ready...GO!!:daz:

Nice boat, but extremely difficult to work on it. It's almost as if they put the motors in before they put the top deck on. The engine compartment is ridiculously tight.

i have noticed that in the pictures the guy sent me....ill be heading home to check it out here in about a month and we will see how it goes. anxious for summer and to be back in a boat again!!

I would search this Baja thread for the answer to your question, there is a lot of information and opinions about that hull. I personally would do a lot of homework before buying one. :party-smiley-004:

Nice boats overall. Like any boat there are good and bad and the bad seems to make people talk more then the good.

Good luck on your search and enjoy!

I have a 2004 30 outlaw with 496 mags and it runs top end around 73mph and I love the boat. But i would agree on not having any room in the motor hatch to work on them. They are tight. Took me 4 hrs to change all 16 spark plugs.

The 30 Outlaw had several known liner issues. Several where complete replaced due to liner separation under warranty. I personally know of 3. Like was said above do your homework on this boat before laying out the cash. I personally wouldn't own one.but thats mainly because there is no recourse now if you have problems.

30' Outlaw

I have had nine different boats in my time on the water. One of them was a '05 30 Outlaw and I can tell you it was my favorite. We boat on Lake Cumberland and it was the perfect size boat in my opinion. Great ride, very stable at 78 MPH with HO's, and more storage than any other comparable 30' boat. Yes the engine compartment is tight, but most twin engine applications are a _itch to work on. I loved that boat and wish I never would have sold it. If you like Baja's you will love this boat.

messaage wotw2e on here he has one that is a one of a kind boat and it might be for sale not sure it has twin 377 scorpions in it

tbirdusa 01-13-2014 02:16 PM

Dumb question Ed... but what exactly is a Scorpion. Small block boat I assume. Is it big HP in a smaller package so that it has a real good "balance" to it? 500 HP out of a small block isn't unreasonable is it? I ask as we're looking at the 32 sensation in the classifieds this week end and its a small block boat. I only get one shot at getting this right and if the boat is too slow in 4 months after purchase, I'll be kicking myself for years as selling it may be a headache. My buddy bought a 29 with twin BB's and thought it was the sheet... for 2 months. then it turned pig on him and he was disappointed with only 239 payments to go. it was / is a 310 boat.

Ebay Ed 01-13-2014 05:34 PM

not sure on the HP but his boat runs around 70 and yes they are small blocks

tbirdusa 01-13-2014 08:39 PM

70 sounds good until your boat runs that. Same problem with 120 mph boat. Good til you got one that runs that. Not that i would know..... Jusss sayin

This is all very true. I own a 2004 30 Outlaw with HO's.

HO Runs 80-82mph with the right props (Mag will do 74-76mph with right props)
Turns amazing! Handles the Power Great!
Very easy to upgrade stereo, and electronics
The cuddy is AMAZING! You can sit 5-6 people in there like its a wrap around couch and watch TV.... Then you can put the seats down and turn it into a huge bed for sleepovers!
Obviously the engines are hard to work on (most dual engine boats are). Changing plugs/Impeller is very tight to get to!
The Lathem steering is great, and requires little to no maintenance (Most 30 outlaws have Lathem I believe)
I like having the throttle's & shifters on separate sides of each other. I know the 33OL has them all together on the right

Only Issues Ive had:
Engine's hard to work on
Headliner has come down a few times and needed re glued
The Access Panel in the Head likes to come loose
With the 496HO's it would be nice to have XR drives (I broke one prop shaft)
The fridge latch stinks. Im gonna use some velcro to reinforce it I think

If memory serves me right, Baja did put the motors in before installing the deck. XT?

Correct, but every model was built that way.
