blue printing?
 

I hear so much about blue printing for a boat.

What is it?


What does it do?

What benefits are there for the boat and owner?

What can you have blue printed?

It's just meticulously measuring, balancing and assembling to within a certain tolerance range.... it's time consuming!

the hull can be blueprinted. removes any factory hook or flaws and streamlines etc for better speed. the lower unit can also be blueprinted with improves hydrodynamics and also helps pick up speed through less resistance. youll often hear the term used to describe an engine build but in my opinion its rookie jargon any high performance engine should be completely gone through and balanced and assembled properly from the get go so no need to say "balanced and blueprinted"engine it should really be a given

Drives and bottoms are what are most commonly blue printed. All though one could argue that labbing propellers is a form of blue printing as well.

Speed, efficiency, handling. Some blueprinting shops argue "free HP"

I've always said there is speed in understanding hydrodynamics and blueprinting.....but I'm cheap so I am waiting for someone to come on here and do a DYI on it :D

Thank you all for the information it clears it up. My boats does 80mph on the gps and that is fast enough for me.

The MOST important gain from "blueprinting" is better and safer handling. Sometimes the speed gain comes from the actual blueprinting and sometimes just that fact that the boat handles better. (due to drives, props, or bottom blueprinting) Not all hull blueprinting results in better handling, sometimes it may free the boat up more and make it seem looser. But when done right you will never look back. My hull is ON RAILS at 95+mph. Boat is happy there all day even over boat wakes etc.

I am happy with it. Sometimes it is to fast for me. I feel like I am as light as air. I will never ever need to go any faster in that boat

80 mph is crazy fast in a 24 ft boat, however never say never. If your next boat is 12-16ft longer 75 mph will seem like you are standing still :D

What's the approximate cost of this?

Mine was 2000.00 on my 302 made a huge difference in handling and ride. Gained a little speed. Depends on condition of your hull. Mine had alot of hook in it. Careful who you get to do this it could turn into a nightmare if they don't know what they're doing. I'd only trust Glass Dave or Lakeaway Boat Repair to do this in my area. Both are located in Ohio.

I got a good hook in mine.... I was quoted 4,000.

I had mine done in 2009 it seems everything else has went up I guess the price of blueprinting a bottom could've as well. Give Lakeaway a call his work is worth the tow.

We have a guy around here that dose amazing work. I never really asked around about cost ... I just figured it is what it is... When budget allowed I would do it. But if some guys are getting quotes at half what was quoted... And the work is good... That may change my time frame.
