Like to find/buy a 232 Islander
Greetings,
I have been looking everywhere for a 5-10 year old 232 Islander. I wanted an Outlaw, H2X, etc. but wife wants a windshield so needless to say I am looking for an Islander. Want to keep the hours low and somewhere in the Midwest if possible. I would appreciate any help if you happen to see or hear of something like this. I have given up in Boat Trader as I have called on four boats and everyone said they sold the boat months ago but website will not remove listing. Thanks!!! Dave |
Are you looking for a cuddy or open bow?
|
Are you look to stay "small"? Length limit? 1/2 truck limit? Small SUV pulling it limit? Must be 232 islander?
Also the Biggest thing.... PRICE LIMIT https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/r...379734367.html Boat is in MI. 232 cuddy https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/a...372176660.html https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/a...353543923.html |
I need an open bow. Yes, the limit on size is 23 as I have a 5000 pound tow limit and after looking at size/weight charts once I get beyond 23 feet they get too heavy. We have had a couple other Islanders and like the layout. Thanks again!!

Send a PM to Navy252 he has a 252 for sale unless it sold in the last month or so there are pictures on another forum but he is listed as a memeber on here as well. I saw a post on it recent where he installed a new engine it looks like a really nice boat he bought a 29 Outlaw. I had a 252 for three years and pulled it with a 2000 model F150, the 252 is a great family boat and rides great, not a speeddemon by any means by plenty of room.

The 232 might be too heavy for a 5000 lbs tow vehicle. The two documents I have list the 232 at 3600 and 3870 lbs. +Trailer (? lbs) + gasoline (74 gal x 6 lbs = 444) + engine option I believe the BB is 270 lbs heavier than 6.2L + gear = ~4250 lbs + trailer.
However that being said I tow with a 3.6L 8speed grand cherokee (6200 lbs limit) and and 110% happy with the way it pulls, freeway speeds are no problem. Check powerboatlistings.com - a couple on there. Any other criteria driving you specifically to a 232? |
Recently sold a H2X, swore I was going at least 25 or bigger this year, well Child Support never goes away. So anyway didnt want to have to buy a new truck also to pull the larger boat. So the 232 fit in the plans great for couple more years. . Pull the 232 with 2013 Tacoma quad cab 4x4. Only few minutes to the river(rarely go) . I have to say .. the 3-6 trips to the LOTO a year,, You know for sure that baja is back there.. Keep searching, I ended up driving to Wisconsin, 14 hr round trip to get the right boat for me.

+1 On Navy 252's boat. I've been on board it's nice, has a killer system and brand new 7.4 with warranty. Lots of new parts, he doesn't cut corners. He's not online much lately, busy with Navy Officer work in a new port. I talk to him pretty regular, I'll give him a heads up if you're interested. The boat is stored in Biloxi, he's in Va. Beach.

Hey thanks! Yes let him know I would like more info.
Jetskidrewski... Not really. Weight is the main thing. Wife prefers open bow but I know if there was a nice closed bow she would like it. I found a very nice 24 H2X but too heavy. I really really screwed up last fall. Bought a brand spanking new 2013 Suburban LTZ, has every option EXCEPT tow package. I read sticker on dealers lot as I stood in the rain, and read Trailer Package.... Stupid me though I was ok on towing. A month later after I bought it, I was reading the sticker again and realized it was Trailer Pkg NOT Towing Pkg. So I paid over $50,000 and am limited to 5000 pounds. Thanks again for the help! |

dallas - We love our 232 but I'd say there are a few other things to consider.
deadrise + weight = ride quality H2X has less deadrise so wont ride as well as 232, 252 will ride better yet and they go from there. But H2X, Hammer, 20 OL, 202 Isl 208 Isl, etc will all be better for water sports. Stand up bolsters vs. sit down. H2X and Hammer are sit down only. There are 232's with sit down swivel seats which are nice for at anchor: can be rotated so driver/pass can face rear bench. Bolsters are more comfortable in bigger waves, but I leave mine dropped out 95% of the time, my wife leaves hers up 95% of the time so its also personal preference. On the suburban, I can't seem to find a tralier vs. tow package, unless the dealer added a trailer hitch on site... maybe double check just to be sure. Might be able to call GM (I wouldn't count on a dealer/salesman) with your VIN to double check. It looks like the tow package that gets to the 8000 lbs mark is: Auxiliary transmission cooler; Heavy duty engine cooling system; 3.420:1 axle ratio. Might be able to add cooling components and get closer to the 8000 mark. Not sure on cost vs. benefit. |
Your tow numbers are correct. I would have to change rear gears ( which then effects the front 4 wheel drive aspect) and add trans cooler etc. we decided to just reduce the size of the boat as it's easier and cheaper. Good stuff on the seating and performance side of things!! Thanks very much.

Dallas, I sent Navy a text this morning and he hasn't replied. I pointed him to your user name and this thread. Stand by.
I thought all 4WD had 3.73 gears. That half ton Burb should be good to tow 7500#. |
Where are you located and whats the price range.

I have the 454 lx mpi and fastest ive had it was 59 mph gps with 3 people 1/4 tank. has bolster seats and imho bolsters are the only way to go. Good Luck! |
There is Grand Sport Center in Illinois that has this listing

Dallas,
I'm not sure what happened to Navy252. He replied to my text last Monday morning at 05:00 and said he'd been at sea and would get with you on this thread.....haven't heard a peep from him since. Kinda weird, I guess he's in good hands with the USN. |

Can someone tell me how this suburban is only rated for 5000 lbs towing? That just seems too low even without the trailer package. Midsize trucks like the tacoma and frontier are rated over 6k colorado was rated 4k and they are not v8. Even the small smallest v8 on a 1500 chassis should tow more than those ratings. Am I missing something here?
