Nasty Blisters

I got my first look at gelcoat blisters. It was on a used boat sitting at a local dealer. The transom and lower hull were covered. It was not a Baja. In fact it was a brand that people brag about being impervious to blisters and/or stress cracks. Man, they are nasty. I poked a few and they squirted. Otherwise the boat was mint. Go figure.

wow, wonder what kind of boat had those blisters, and people knock Baja, just shows you can have problems with ANY boat

Yep, no manufacturer is immune...It happens for many reasons: Weather, mixing, etc. That sucks!

Don't know why people blast Baja's. When looking for my 3rd boat ( all bajas) I decided to check other brands. After looking at workmanship and prices, I went back to Baja

Rick,

Baja did have a problem, but I have heard they solved it. It had to do with the guns they were spraying with and the cleaning process of the guns.

Bottom line was they knew they had a problem, found and corrected the problem, and I have heard from people that hard their boats fixed by Baja to their satisfaction.

I am not going to bash any other brands, but I looked at three others and only one, Formula, was of equal or better build quality in my opinion. The problem was that it was almost $30,000 more with less options in the cuddy and the styling was dated compared to the Outlaw look in my opinion.

Buying any brand boat is just like buying any brand automobile. You get bad ones from time to time and will have problems.

How you use and care for your boat has a lot to do with it long term.

I have a few blisters on my 1999 33, mostly by the chine. Baja is taking the boat back this winter to fix it. They've also agreed to extend the hull warranty an additional 5 years. The dealer arranged everything.

No complaints on my part:)
