Which has a Faster Bottom 29 Outlaw or 302?
Which boat has a faster bottom the 29 Outlaw or 302? Also does anyone have a 302 with the 496 Mag HO and if so what does it run?
|
The dealer I bought my 36 from had just delivered a new 302 with every option Baja had to offer with 496HO motors. This boat had A/C, generator, extension boxes, extended K-planes, you name it. The bad part is this guy paid $149,000 for the boat.
Anyway, I run into him on the lake about three weekends ago and he loves the boat. He says he is seeing speeds of 71 to 72 MPH on the GPS. The dealer had told me when they water tested the boat that they got 74 on the speedo. Loaded the way it is I would say that is pretty good. Knowing this I would believe the 302 my be slightly faster than the 29 Outlaw. I usually considered the Outlaw series faster, I know a 25 Outlaw with the same power would out run the 272 I had. Hope this helps. Mark |
I have a 302 with 502 MPI Magnums and I have just got 78.6 on my GPS. Guy I bought it from says it will GPS at 80.2. I can do 75 every sday though... BTW - no head, galley, or anything else with extra weight.

I didn't think you could get a 302 with a generator? It's not listed in the standard or optional equipment on their website. How much weight would this option add.

Where would you put it?

Dock: Are you sure it wasn't a 342 at your dealer? That seems more realistic with the speeds he is seeing and with the options Baja is showing. It could also be that they only offered the Generator in the pre 2002 models (302 Changed some in 2002). The times I've been in the 302 it seems that it would be an extremely tight fit to get a generator in the engine compartment with twins.

I've seen generators go under the bench seat in the cockpit.

slgr24,
I can assure you that it is a 302. It was ordered and sold by Carolina Marina in Mt. Mourne, NC. I saw the boat on a trailer at the dealer and ran into the guy that owns it at the lake. I have not actually seen the generator, not sure where they mounted it or the weight, but he does have one that came in the boat from Baja. He basically got every option in it that we got on the 36 Outlaw plus a generator. Way too much money for a 302 in my opinion. I am fine with the shore power hookup. I never even asked the dealer about a generator, but I guess we could have got one if we really wanted it. Thanks Mark |
I agree, $149,000 is a lot of money for a 302. I would guess he didn't get much off retail even with all those options. I'm sure it's still a extremely nice boat as is your 36!

149K
Is that before or after the 30% mark-up(bicker-down)?
105-110 +tax out the door sounds better. Hell, one guy just bought a used 2000 40 Outlaw with trip HP500's for 150K... |
