Is this an Islander or Outlaw.

http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/boa/4599909929.html

Not crazy about the color, but its seems to be a clean boat. Pros and Cons to this boat. I know a little about boats, but not much about a baja.

boatnt 09-27-2014 10:02 PM

neither.

Baja Rooster 09-27-2014 10:20 PM

Looks like an Islander cuddy cabin to me. If so it should run mid 65s. Good all around family boat.

bajadad 09-28-2014 12:45 AM

Islanders are open bow ( bow riders) which this isn't but it's not an Outlaw either.

Plowtownmissile 09-28-2014 01:53 AM

Baja has three model series:
Outlaw
Islander
Performance

That's a Performance series boat.

sledfreak 09-28-2014 07:39 AM

So, is there a real difference in the haul on those 3 models?

RiReuter 09-28-2014 08:19 AM

I think performance and outlaw have the same hulls, not sure about the islander though. Also for what it is worth, i have a hard time believing it runs 68-70 MPH on GPS with 415 hp.

LiveFREEorDIE 09-28-2014 08:28 AM

It is a 272 performance and yeah 68 is more dream-ometer speeds on the dash. Look for low 60s 65 max gps with light load

sledfreak 09-28-2014 08:38 AM

OK, I am not real worried about a couple of mph. As long as it is in the 60's range, I am good with it. What do you guys think its worth? Is he over priced?

Nightlife1970 09-28-2014 09:21 AM

Real world he is at least 5k high.

Definitely overpriced. Mid 20s depending on condition. Cruise speed is way off also... 4k at 49 on gps will be more like it.

Sometimes. Some models in different series share the same "bottom".

For example:
202 Islander & 20 Outlaw
302 Performance & 29 Outlaw
342 Performance & 33 Outlaw
272 Islander & 272 Performance

Agee... Overpriced!! I just sold my 272boss In April for 23k.. Granted it was 454, but it didn't have
The hateful colors either. Probably like 42-45 cruise speed.. Top speed max 65....

sledfreak 09-28-2014 11:42 AM

So what are you guys thinking... 23-25,000.00

I think you can add the 25 OL to the bottom line above. +1 on all the speed/rpm comments. It takes more than a little to get a 272 over 65 MPH.

yep! start him low and see what his bottom line is.. Winter is coming for yall.. good time to bargain!

sledfreak 09-30-2014 08:43 PM

Are the stripes on the side of that boat decals or painted. If they were decals, How much would do you think it would take to change them out for a purple, black and silver combination? As well, what about doing the same and removing some of the yellow and pink on the seats and back swim pad? Maybe, just remove the pink and yellow for white?

in gel

sledfreak 10-01-2014 09:19 AM

So, they are in the gel coat? Ugh...

Hook'em 10-01-2014 09:40 AM

They are, but check out Nailit's 33OL. He did a great job covering up colors he didn't like with vinyl. Changed the looks of the boat completley.

Baja Rooster 10-01-2014 10:06 AM

Almost any factory colors are going to pale to today's wrap jobs. If you like the interior colors than I wouldn't even sweat the exterior colors as you can customize what you want.

Fwiw - a similar boat with a new wrap and updated interior has has trouble selling here in the SF Bay area for the listed $23k, and even his $20k bottom price.

sledfreak 10-01-2014 11:07 AM

Not to woried about the interior colors as I can fix most of that as well. I am more worried about the outside. I just dont want a wrap, where I will still see of feel the old decals on the outside. I guess I am just looking on how that whole process would work and/or how it would look.

Baja Rooster 10-01-2014 11:10 AM

Then definitely hold out for the one you want and makes your mojo flow when you look at it.

Hook'em 10-01-2014 12:43 PM

PM Nailit if he doesn't chime in here. He nailed it (pun intended).

sledfreak 10-02-2014 07:35 PM

I think this boat is actually a 272 Baja Boss. I am actually starting to like this boat. I am not worried so much anymore about the stripes as I am starting to get it in my head that I will customize it a bit. Just waiting for the guy to send me more pics of the inside and bilge. He went on vacation for a week.

sledfreak 10-17-2014 10:05 PM

Well, looking to go and pick this up this week.

sledfreak 10-18-2014 09:07 PM

Anyone one know why the bilge blower would not be working in this 1999 272 that I am looking at buying. The owner tells me the light is on at the switch, but it does not work? What are the possible issues as to why this is not working? He said at the price I am getting the boat at he feels he is not going to fix it. Apparently that is the only thing wrong with the boat.

yep yep!! I got an awesome deal on my boat, partly b/c of the color. I bought my 33 with 12 hours on new motors for under 40k which was the same price as the 29ols were running!! It was some work.. about 12 hours involved in changing graphics and a lot more in trying to come up with the colors and plan on what to do.

sledfreak 10-18-2014 10:08 PM

Also what is the deal with the floors and stringers rotting on baja boats. This is a 99, but I have been reading some stories of people saying the floors were rotted and transomes were rotted because are things not being sealed right from the factor, especially around the trim tabs.

nailit 10-18-2014 10:12 PM

Get a survey!! I had a 99 25ol and now a 98 33ol and both are solid!! Depends on previous owners.

I bought my first from shogren and 2nd from guy in va that didnt use it. Stayed in boat-tel dry docked when not in use.

cant be that bad. worse case, blower is shot. test power at blower with meter and that will tell you if its burnt. I had one that had the wire pulled out the connection.. easy fix. either way, fairly cheap and not completed if power wire is good. Other wise, your pulling new wires to back..

sledfreak 10-19-2014 05:53 PM

Thss boat has never spend the night in the water. He was just a day runner and when he did not use it, it was kept in the garage. He has owned it for the last 10 years and was the second owner. Just not sure if I can line up a surveyer in time.

huskyrider 10-20-2014 07:24 PM

The listing expired and I didn't get to see it.
If it checks out I'd call it a 20k plus or minus 10% boat.
Don't be fooled about its performance abilty.
That hull, my Canadian Internet friend, with more power will really wake up and haul the mail!!!
There are a few members here that have some wicked fast 272's
As in much faster than I would care to go in a less than low 30 foot boat.
Does your potential boat have hydraulic power steering???
At 415 hp I'd guess it's a 502mag.
You don't want to power up more than that without it.
I don't see you having a problem as is hitting mid 60's with the right prop.
Congrats on your find!!!:coolcowboy:

See ya,
Kelly

sledfreak 10-27-2014 10:22 AM

Yes, it has Power Steering. Just got it home. I wish I could figure out how to post a pic, then I would. Its a 99, Baja 272 with a 502, Bravo 1. It has 302hrs on it.

Also, what is the best prop for this boat? Its a stock 502 with I believe a stock prop, 23p. I need to verify. But, it certainly is not the best prop. It seems to wash out very easily. I am thinking 24p Bravo 1. I am not looking for the almighty top end. Just looking for better out of the hole and mid range pull with keeping the same top end or more. I guess I want it all. lol...

RiReuter 10-27-2014 11:45 AM

502 mag MPI?

nailit 10-27-2014 09:31 PM

a 24p b1 should be the ticket.. I went from 23p m+ to 23p b1 uppitched a 22b1 and worked great!!

sledfreak 10-28-2014 07:43 AM

Yes.. 502 mag mpi.

OK, so you went from the stock 23p mirage plus to a 23p Bravo 1, then to a 22p bravo 1?

nailit 10-28-2014 07:34 PM

oops... typo and i didnt proof... the 22 p b1 was uppitched to 23p. The 22 was a bit short, meaning cruised slower and tapped rev. The 23p b1 ran the same speeds as the 23p m+ but didnt lose cruise speed when loaded and was better out the hole when loaded.

I also tried a 21p rev4 which ran really well, but couldnt find a 23p rev4. According to bblades, basically the rev4 is better out the box than a B1. But labbing a B1 is better... mine wasnt labbed but felt really good over all.
Better holeshot, cruise, bit, docking, etc! oh, I also only had the 454mag, so you should be able to push a 24 b1 which will have better cruise.

I pushed it to 4k at 51 and topped out at 4700 at 63 in cool weather. (385hp)
