Fast 232 ??
Ive looked in past posts here in the Baja forums to see if anyone has ever put 600+ HP in a 232 Baja Boss. I didn't find much, so I will start a new thread. I was just curious of the outcome or if there were any issues I was going to run into during the engine swap that someone may have experienced. The boat will run 62 MPH with a stock 330HP carbed 454 engine. I found a Merc 502 600SC that Im going to put in the boat instead. Please speak up if anyone has done anything similar....thanks.

Well.... sounds like a lot of money and time for a 232 but it should be fun as hell! This coming from a guy who had a 900 hp sc in a 272, LOL
|
As far as time goes, I have all winter now, its inside and heated, so I can pick away at it over the winter. Its really just simple engine swap as the 600 is 100% complete. Kind of a plug and play deal.( Im assuming, this is why Im asking) .....minus the hatch cutting for the scoop of course...... Im trading the stock 454 as partial funding to get the used 600SC...its not all that expensive for the engine purchase as Im friends with the person who owns it. Im doing this project just to do something different. Its gonna need hydraulic steering and some longer trim tabs,..oh, and a prop............ I really like the 900 in the 272! LOL!!! That must have been a wild ride! Im going to look for a thread on your boat.

I've got a nice 25p MirGe Plus that would work nicely with that setup. ;)
Sounds great! I'm all about ridiculous power! I think that you're on the right track with the power steering that helps minimize the chine walk. I'm guessing 80+? How did the 900hp/272 turn out? |
I would also guess 80+ MPH with 600hp in a 232. Will definitly be a fun boat. You might be able to go bigger than 25p with that setup. Im hoping to try a 23p with my stock 6.2 this weekend.

Go for it. Just to give you an idea, I have a 21ft superboat with a 509 efi. It has some work done to it (cam, exhaust and a couple of small things). I figure I'm around 500-550 hp. Best speed is 87 with a mirage 27 non plus. The acceleration is amazing. Good luck with it.

I never dailed my prop in but got 90mph out of a 30P bravo.... Hated to put too much prop and blow another drive.... |
I would make another deck out of plywood and save your hatch... You may be upgrading soon. Jus put padding and vinyl on .
|
Good call on the hatch! I will definitely consider that. According to the Bam speed calculator, a 232 with 600 HP should run 86 MPH. If Im within a few of that Im happy. As far as upgrading goes, you never know, but I just down graded to this boat after 5 yrs with 2 TOP GUNS, a 382 Formula and a 40FT Excalibur Hawk......I needed a break!
|
If considering hatch upgrade/replacement you might want to contact XT. They might have parts/ideas etc. available that could end up being pretty sweet!
|
It's going to run 82-84 just like every other boat you've ever owned ;)

Funny thing is I've got a bud selling a 236 I'd love to buy and drop a 525sc into. It would certainly save on fuel costs and without a doubt be an easier tow for day trips. See ya Kelly |

Sad but true!.......... I need to hit at least 84 to break my bad luck streak! Hahaha! |
Just acquired the external hydraulic steering system on Sunday. Boat parts are coming in! Pics to follow..........
|
My 236 with a stock 330 only runs 51 on GPS. I need a pro charger or something.

Very interesting, I will stay tuned for sure. :coolcowboy:

I think you need water like a mirror when drive an 232 so fast!
I have an 232 with new 8.2 Mag Ho,whiple PCM and look now for CMI ! It runs 72-73 Miles but any waves make it very hard! So much power like 650 HP or so is better for a bit longer boat with 24 degree hull and not only 23 like the 232 have. I run 25 mirage plus! But only 4800 RPM.So i look for CMi to get bit higer RPM. But Think is is then much enough as it can not be used real when more power. Michael |

I have a 98 H2X w a 502 mag vortech S/C 630hp in a 24 foot 21 degree dead rise bass boat like bottom w twin ram trim tabs. My boat has a 26p bravo one that bumps the rev limiter at 5400rpm at just over 3/4 throttle.. It really needs a 28p Bravo but it comes out of the hole so good and cruises so good I don't care all that much about more top speed. In fact we just bought a 300 Searay and towing the Baja does not feel all that good so I guess I will be selling the 260hr Baja hotrod for only $27,500.. |
Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate any and all info on boats that are already done and running.I realize this boat is short, but Im going to extend the trim tabs to extend the length of the boat, Hopefully that helps the handling.Does anyone know if the H2X bottom is the same or similar to the 232 bottom? I know the H2X is a sit down boat and kind of the BAJA "HOT ROD."
|
H2X have only 21 Degree hull and 232 have more like offshore boats! It has 23 degree at 232 hull!
Michael |
Michael is correct 232 and H2X are different bottoms.
|
This makes the H2X very fast, but when some waves you like the 23 degree hull much more!!!:fear:
It goes than much better forward! full Offshorers have 24 degree,so 232 is not to bad for waves! And 252 or 275 have 24 degree also! Michael |
i ran a 540 cid with a 3.3 whipple injected super charger with the large inner cooler 800 h.p on the dyno extensin box teague xr drive with imco lower unit large cav plates on my boss 232 the boat run high 90.s
