240 vs 250 sport

Obviously the 250 sport being the larger of the 2 boats, however how do they stack up hull wise when looking to go fast?

I will assume being larger and heavier the 250 will handle the rougher water better, however in light chop which is going to be a faster hull?

240 or 250

Faster with same power?
More stable at higher speeds?
Overall capability of going faster with more power?

which 240 are your referring too? The 240 Sport that became the Outlaw, or the 240 that was the 226 ES in the late 80s?

The 250 is a better boat as it's built with a full hull liner. I've spent a lot of time in both. About 10 -12 yrs back, a buddy of mine and I did a lot of testing on his 250 Sport. In the end, it had a 900hp Pro-Charged, R-Tech intercooled BBC. It ran 90 but was like a rodeo bull. Very stable until 80 or so.

I have owned the 240 hull that became the 24 OL and I have 2 friends that both have 250's right now. They are 2 100% different boats. Neither of which is a speed demon with factory power being around 58-62 mph with a 454 mag. I would say the 240 is a little better in rough as it runs very deep in the water and has more of a deadrise on the v. The 250 has a larger cockpit as well as cabin. It has a larger engine compartment which makes maintenance easier, and the integrated swim platform is nice.

I had 600hp in the 240 I owned and it was a low 70 mph boat. One friend of mine has a 509 with a 174 blower making 3.5 psi in his 250. It is a little over 600 and it is a mid 70 mph boat. My other friend has a 516 cu in with an M3 procharger that makes 888hp @ 6000 rpm in his 250. The boat is currently turning a 28p Hydromotive 4 blade at 5500 rpm and runs 85+ mph. It likes a little chop and honestly it feels alot safer at high speed than my 240 did in the low 70's as my 240 would chine walk very badly.

All said and done, if I had my choice of the 2 I would pick the 250/270 hull 10 out of 10 times over the 240/24OL. The only real issue with the 250 is if you break the windshield your pretty much out of luck!!
