Will this Tow my 33 OL??
2 Attachment(s)
ha, just kidding, I got plenty of slack about towing with our Expedition even though it towed pretty well.
Dont worry, this is not another TOW THREAD!!! But I did UPGRADE!!!! From: TO!!!! Havent towed it yet, but cant wait, this thing is a beast and 19-20 mpg on hwy!! |
Nice ride!!
|
Thank god, it's not winter yet...please no tow arguments yet. Last year got out of hand. ;)
Very sweet ride! But...was the wind pushing you for that MPG? :) |

Ive got an 05 with the 6.0 in it, not very impressive, but its OK, it managed to pull my TG back from NY, Ive heard the 6.7 is a good engine, I once pulled my 33 OL with my John Deer, but just in the driveway :D
|
You will really like the longer wheel base :)
|
If it's not a sport chassis I'm sure someone will say no
|
Nice, I will be buying a new 6.7 after the first of the year, can't wait.
|
I've got the same truck. Love it. Pulls my 38 like it's not even there.

strange thing is that i can back up my trailer into my house better with the longer wheelbase than the short expedition.. wierd!! My parking spot is rather weird, its on side of the house... but, I have to pull up the street directly in front of my house that dead ends in my front yard. So, I pull up the street, then back in to the left facing back to hit the neighbors driveway where there is a mailbox right on the left of the driveway. Then go around a bush and then to the right back into my yard and slip in behind my huge a/c unit. all with limited visibility of the neighbors house. My experince level is very good, but this seems to be easier with a truck.. odd! |
6.7 is such a beast!
|
Nice truck. I have a dually duramax and who cares what people think about what tows the best. They all have their plus and minuses. Never thought I would be a diesel lover till I got one . I will never go gas again even if I towed a John boat
|
Got the same truck and it gets 13 empty or pulling a 38 ft boat. 2013

I am averaging 17.5 commuting into New Orleans with traffic. Havent towed boat yet, but cant wait, this thing is zippy! |
Towed my 33 to ozarks this past weekend with friends 13 6.7, about 300 miles, you will love it! Averaged 13 mpg with load, way home about 17.5 going close to 80 whole time.
|
6.7 is an awesome combo. 2013 450 dually pulls my 33 around 13mpg.... If it got 18-19 I'd buy one!

From today!! Boat ran good, best yet with B1 labbed by bblades. 79 degree, 40 humidity, 1 ft chop, 66.3mph. Realized my trim indicators were a lil off, so I matched up the lil rooster tails and squeezed another 1mph out! Oh, just me and 1/2 fuel

If you want to improve on it, tune it...or so I've heard.... :-) |

I havent heard much on tuners for the 6.7s?? Also dont want to void the factory warranty or blow up a motor by trying to get some more hp. Its pretty quick already.. |
Yep 13 is all I get . Love the truck it has ton of power will pull a house down and has a ton of zip but full mileage sucks. I have a 3.55 rear end in it. What rear end do you guys have in your trucks ?
|
I'm about right where you guys are with 13 towing (7000 lbs) and 18 or a little better in my normal commute. The mpg seemed to keep improving up to about 5000 miles. It has stabilized now and I've got about 7500 miles on it. It is my daily driver and I couldn't be happier. Probably the best all round vehicle I've ever owned. If I had my druthers I would have the large rear seat area of the F150 and take out some of the bed but I imagine that most of these are sold as work trucks and not toy haulers. Still compared to my 11 F150 eco boost it is quieter, has better window down airflow and lower noise (I ride with the windows open a lot), way (way way) more powerful and really is just plain more fun.
Congrats Nailit. Dan |
I just took mine to N. La. and I was travelling 75 for 2/3 of trip and 60-70 during the other 1/3. Averaged 18.5.. Mine has the 3.55 and has 44k miles on it. I did notice when I get more around town driving, its down to 15 and that's driving is cautiously as I am trying to save the tires.. This thing will spin them easily!
its definitely fun to drive and if I fart, I can crack a window and open rear sliding back window and it sucks it right out!!!! LOL Haven't really pulled the boat on any long trip and since is getting cooler, I don't see that happening till spring. |
power rear slider is a must, I have it on both of mine
|
I got to say, I'm a little doubtful of some of these numbers when you give them a hand calculated reality check:
http://www.fuelly.com/car/ford/f-250_super_duty You can adjust based on which engine you're talking about but sure as hell nobody is getting 19-20 MPG on average. I think a lot of people suffer from "I get 18 MPG" because they got it once, right after resetting the computer driving over flat ground at 50 MPH. |

Is anyone getting better mpg with a tuner?? Not too concerned as my fuel is paid by co. |
That's kinda my point, one trip where you're maintaining a constant speed compared to a normal commute day, no way ppl are "getting" 18 MPG. An occasional high MPG is great, but rarely does it average out. My EcoBoost has seen 18-19 on highway trips in the winter, but that's not an accurate representation of the average.
|
The lie-o-meter on my dash (6.4L) has never been correct.......
Best MPG I ever saw on a trip was 22.3 MPG 6.4L (hand calculated) through the mountains on I-40 (with stock 18" wheels) Since I've upgraded to 20" wheels, I am in the 16-18 range on trips, and I've never checked it while towing...I don't want to know!!!! I am at almost 100k with only 2 issues on the truck, failed transmission temp sensor (28k) warranty claim, and a burnt up alternator (90K) on my dime..... I know Spartan and H&S make tunes for the 6.7L - I have a family member who runs an H&S on his.....I wouldn't be worried about warranty issues, unless you are going to beat the crap out of it everywhere you go, and I have heard Spartan inserts info into the computer tracking history when returning to stock so it looks like regens (if that's what they call it on urea exhausts) have been occurring... The "Boss" will not let me upgrade to a 6.7 yet.... |

My dashboard gauge (for fuel consumption) is spot on (to the tenth anyway which is the accuracy of the gauge). If I go to the same station and the same pump and park in the same orientation so that the tank is sitting in the same position, then I get very accurate comsumption readings. I can put a gallon more or less in the tank depending on whether the truck is oriented slightly up hill or down. Heck, the odometer is probably not that accurate. Now on the 496 in the boat, fuel consumption is not measured but calculated (which it may be on the 6.7 also) from injector opening times and rpm. In that case the boat actually uses 2-3 gallons more on 50 consumed than reported by the Smartcraft instrumentation. At the end of the day it really doesn't matter, just so long you know your equipment. The problem with the diesel is not 17 or 18 or 19 mpg, the problem is the tax structure that puts diesel at $0.50+ per gallon more than the more expensive to produce 87 octane gas. Dan |
Well, price comparison on fuel price vs mpg was a net compared to to my jeep with 35s jacked up hitting 14.5 to 15mpg.
Although this truck is a lot quicker than my lil 4dr wrangler!!! |

That is interesting. Before the 6.7 I had a 2011 Eco Boost. Loved the truck. I hardly ever saw above 17.5 with it though and in the winter it was worse. I blamed that on cold tires and increased rolling resistance. I always thought the eco part of Eco Boost was stretching it, the boost part was spot on though. It was a beast. Whoever designed oil filter and drain location should be shot on sight however.
