40 OL Performance?

Thinking about buying a 40 OL. I currently have a 36 OL and love everything about it w/ the exception of speed. I have often read here that the 33 OL is a lighter faster boat and performs better. Can anyone out there discuss how the 40 OL compares to these two boats? Closer in performance to the 33 or the 36? What is the expected speed with 525s w/ and w/o Whipple blowers?

If your looking for a new boat the 35 outlaw would be the fastest, large Baja made, measuring about 38' overall. Awesome boat.

The 33 is the second fastest followed by the 36 and 40 would be slower but still great boats.

A 525 40 will run 70ish.....whippled would run low 80's and probably gobble up XR's on a regular basis...if you're running it hard.

As I recall, the 40 was derived from stretching a 36...performance similarities will be closest to the 36

A friend has a 40 with around 625 hp/side and it runs around 75. If I was in the market for a 40, I would put Arnesons on it and have fun without drive worries and run into the 80's

I see you are in Denver. Where do you do your boating ?

Smitty,

I see you are from Illinois. Well, unfortunately We don't have the water expanses that you enjoy. We live about 40 miles south of Denver, about 10 miles SW of a Castle Rock, CO. Grew up in western NY and summered on a lake 100 miles NE of Toronto.

The closest water is the Pueblo reservoir about 80 miles south of us, a decent size body of water. Then there is Horsetooth about 100 miles north. These are about 7-10 miles long. In the middle of the state there is Blue Mesa reservoir @ about 25 miles long. Then, there is Lake Powell on the Colorado River in Utah/AZ which is a truly special place about 100/150 miles in length depending on water availability. Every boater must do this lake at least once in his life. Houseboat is a great way with several other couples, but just hanging out on the Baja is also spectacular.

Thx for the reply. I was considering a job in Denver a few yrs back, but did not want to give up my boating, even if only 3-4 mos. per year. If I had a chance again, I think I would go for it and change over to quadding, 4 wheeling and sledding. Those would be cheaper :)

Thx

Smitty

I just went through the same dilemma. I loved my 36 but wanted more speed so I bought a 42 Cig tiger TS with 575's and had it up to 83mph.
So far I love the boat but the outlaw cabin is untouchable.

Congrats on the Tiger- But I will agree the cabin in my 29 OL was Much more usable that the one in my 38- But do we REALLY use them?!!
