Welcome to the Board, Darin.
Good to see you here...

Darin's got a ton of happy customers and has done wonders for many people in the past from what I've been hearing. :D :)
He's also the host of the Propeller section on TBM/BBOA.

Shooter 09-03-2002 07:48 AM

Welcome,

one question - why are you much more expensive say - like a Bronson Hill. For that price, why not send them directly to Merc?

29scarab 09-03-2002 08:46 AM

Hey Darin!!

Welcome to the board! I didn't even know you guys existed.

I need to get mine labbed. Next time I'm in Houston.....considering I work out of town all the time... I'll drop mine off and give ya a shot at squeezing those last 250rpm out I need!!

Again Welcome!!! Nice to have a Texas connection!!

Shawn

Sent the Bravo 1 four blades to Darin and he got them today.

I have been getting around 4800 to 4850 RPM out of the 500's on the 36 Outlaw.

Darin says he is going to show them the love and get that RPM I'm missing and hopefully a couple of MPH which would be nice.

I will keep you posted.

Mark

I just tried my new 23 mirage prop on my Baja 232 (496mag/375ph) that Darin of Houston propeller worked for me. It performs very well! The hole shots and midranges are better than before plus I gained 2mph (69-70mph, no gps) and I’m still bouncing off the rev. limiter (4950rpm). I’m sending this prop back to Darin for more work. Darin says he can add even more cup or as he said "sprinkle more go-fast on it” too pickup more top-end and drop rpms down.

I used a friends GPS last month with the old prop and found my Speedo to be 1-2 mph fast than GPS. So my real speed once everything is said and done with this prop should top out at around 69mph. All test runs have been done with two adults and about 40 gallons of gas.

I’ll keep everyone updated as we progress.

HOUSTONPROP 10-05-2002 11:35 PM

THANK'S BILL C.

THAT'S GREAT , we have the prop and I think we have a little more go fast for your propeller , keep us all posted and prop will be shipped on Monday.

Good to see you on this board. You've provided some good advice and service on TBM.

I'll be sending you a pair of B1s for repair and balance and the other pair we talked about.

I'll send you an email when they're on the way.

Do you think I would see much difference? Heres what I have. 27' baja with twin 350mags turning 23p mirage (not plus) @ 4600. I bought the props after I got the boat. Both are RH, I have alphas on it. One of them appears to be labbed (thinner blades) and the other looks thicker. On the thicker propped engine, It seems like it is always behind. on WOT the engines sync together, but it seems like the labbed prop engine is always revving faster and higher. Heres a pic to show where it sits in the water.

What do you advise on the props?

Jason

JASON , There is no question there is work to be done on the props , when you send them in take a black magic marker and right on the blades /what each props is running for rpm, yes we need to get ALOT MORE LIFT. Other than that it looks as if it was a great day on the lake. HURRY AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GREAT DEALS GOING ON RIGHT NOW. just shoot me a e- mail of your contact number, and we will get you UP and running fasterthan ever in THE BAJARUNNER. :D nice boat.

HI! I own a 2000 232 with a 7.4 MPI 310 HP. Prop is 23 Mirage Plus. Running 62 MPH GPS. 4550 WOT.

Would a labed 25 Mirage plus do something for me? Need for more speed. Hole shot is good right now.

Thanks

I would say lab the 23 pitch prop and put a little extra cupping in it and this will work wonders/Darin:cool:

Darin, what do you think of this : ????

«We grind our trailing edges from hub to tip rather than across the blade, thus eliminating any potential stress risers. Reducing the blade thickness from a 1/4" to a 1/8" which equates to half of the blades original thickness. But does not reduce the strength by 50%, but actually reduces the blade strength to approximately 12% of its original strength»

Johnny Bravo 05-18-2003 12:06 PM

We have not seen it yet. based on the day you shipped it, I should see it this tuesday. It is a one week delivery via UPS from your shop. With the weather we are having the outlaw has not been in the water yet.

I was wondering if some prop work or a new prop would help my 25 outlaw. It has a 496 ho mag running a 23 mirage plus. It has a great hole shot and not bad top end.. don't know what top is blew speedo line at 65+... I saw you had a 25 pitch for $250. Is this for the prop you have for sale? Would a 4 blade work better in a higher pitch for my 25? Suggestions?

Thanks

what are the rpms at running w.o.t.(wide open throttle) a four blade will slow it down .The 23 is probably your best prop but needs labbed and pitched to a 24 with a little extra cupping, should do the trick.Darin oh! the 25 pitch is sold.

Johnny Bravo 05-19-2003 04:18 PM

I have a 25 outlaw with a 502 and Darrin just labed my prop. Our GPS speed prior to the lab work was 67.3 MPH with a 2 foot chop. Our labed prop should be here tomorrow, and we will be on the water on sunday to test it out. I wll let you know how it works. By the way our spedo tube did the same thing when it was new. We just had it replaced with a heavy duty tube.

What's a heavy duty tube? Mine keeps coming loose.

wonderwick 05-20-2003 12:37 PM

I don't know what the top rpm is. Haven't had it opened up yet. Did have it to 5000 but had some throttle left. How much to get my prop worked on?

Johnny Bravo - where did you get the heavy duty tube for the speedo? I tie wrapped it but haven't tried it yet to see if it will stay on. Have you tried this and will it work?

Thanks all.

Johnny Bravo 05-20-2003 05:09 PM

My local mechanic had to buy 56 feet of this tubing from Merc. It seems to be much thicker and stiffer. I also noticed that it is attached in several spots on the drive where it was not before so it looks like it will hold up. My mechanic also said it was a ***** to replace since Merc. changed the design.

Yes, I tried tywraps and many other things to keep the spedo tube attached and nothing would hold up for more than one ride.

Good luck, it took me two years to finaly get fustrated enough to have it fixed.

wonderwick 05-20-2003 05:33 PM

Thanks for the info. I'll go out and take the ty wrap off and sleeve the tubing, superglue it, clamp it, then ty wrap it and may even put some liquid metal over that before I'll take it to these boat weenies around here. May even replace it with GPS. That'll take care of it for sure.
