One of my buddies has a real nice 1990 Sport 280. It's a great boat!

My Wife and I bought a 1988 280 Sport brand new and it's a bit of a funny story.

At the time we were to get married, I had already bought 2 brand new Baja's from Performance Marine in Oxford Mass, a Sport 210 and then a custom ordered Sport 220 with the brand new 454 Mag/Bravo package. They had just got a new 280 in for the Worcester Boat show. At the time, it was a pretty bad ass boat for up here as only a few owned go-fasts up here in Maine.

Seeing the new 280 at the show was something else, It had the optional radar arch and that just made it so much cooler (lol) It was on a triple axle trailer too. We got to crawl all over it and the sales guy was all over us as he knew us from the two previous purchases. The brand new 280 was cool and had our attention but was a bit out of our league at 70k, for a couple in still in our 20's

Shortly after the show, we decided to tie the knot and flew to Bermuda and got married. We had eloped and never told anyone our plans. When we returned, our in-laws (who were living in Germany at the time) had sent us a rather large check. Unknown to my Wife, My Father in Law had been saving for his daughters wedding since she was a little girl. When I saw that fat check, I did what I thought would be a good idea and spent the wedding money on a new speed boat.

When he found out what I had done with the money, he was a bit perplexed as he's a very conservative guy with money and I think he might have thought my new purchase was foolish.. When he asked my what I was going to name the boat, I told him it was "160 Chicken Dinners" !!!! As that is what the boat represented, the funds for 160 dinner plates! Haha! My Father in Law accepted my purchase and my in laws always made sure they got in a few days of boating with us whenever they would come to visit!

-We owned our 280 for 12 years, logged about 1000 hrs on it. Bought and sold several other boats over those years but just had a hard time letting that one go. Was a great boat, we enjoyed it tremendously.
