Has anybody ever gutted Capt. Choice exhaust tips?
Just curious. I have read on a few threads that you can remove the "outermost" plate by removing 4 rivets but can you remove more than that? Is there a internal back wash flapper? Any info on modifying these tips would be great. Would this exhaust modification be dangerous for the motor? Back pressure/ ECU settings? Thanx for any info.

There have been a few threads on this recently.
From what I have read on here and from what the dealer has told me, the only thing you can do is drill the rivits out on the end flange, or replace the tips. I drilled mine out a few weeks ago and was very pleased in the sound. I would say it is 25-30% louder than before. The wife was happy. We plain to change the tips out over the winter on our boat. A friend did this on his new 25 Outlaw with 496HO and it sounds GREAT. |
i dont think you will gain any performance out of gutting the tips. sound will be great on a v-8.

If you have the Corsa tips that are about 8", (you should be able to see another restrictor plate w/ a nut in the center), it will be louder but not as loud as regular thru hull tips.....I just did it to one and ended up getting tips from stainless marine and silent choice from from corsa.....I had the Q&Q II that went thru hull and lower unit full time. No problem w/ the performance
I got the angle cut tip for looks...but if I had it to do again after the Labor Day weekend, I would get the straight cut and salsbury flaps too...........about $160 w/ shipping. 99 H2x |
Thanks for the info.
I quess I will drill the rivets on the tips. It's getting late in the season so I'll just get a couple sets of tips over the winter. Thanks for the info.
P.S. Doc what do you see for top end? Just curious. |
Does any one know how to remove the center guts. do you have to remove the tips to get at the other side of the nut or is it just welded to another plate.

They are welded on, cutting torch is only way......
I would just buy new tips...lot of people want the mufflers (believe it or not) |
