Shift cable

How difficult or any secrets to changing out a shift cable on an 03 33 outlaw 496ho's?? My port side shifts forward easy but takes some extra effort to put in reverse..

Which cable is giving you problem? I have 454 mags but I just changed a cable bellow which required the removal of the short cable thru the drive.

There is a tool to set the cable on top the motor, but I just taped them so they wouldnt move. Took me about 2.5 hours. 15-20 minutes longer b/c I still tried to work the bellow over the rear end of cable and then pulled out.

If its the same set up, it should be easy. Make sure you know how the cable is routed around the Y pipe. That was probably the hardest part b/c I did it by myself and you have limited visibility behind motor when your pushing cable back in.

Hoping front cable.. going to disconnect from coupler to short rear cable and see if it shifts easy from there

be careful shifting that dive in and out of gear while not running, heard it could jack up the cone clutch, if its the lower cable that goes through the transom assembly tie a string onto it before you remove the old cable so you have a fishin line to pull the new cable back in.

I tried the string but the lil knot would not pull through. Was pretty easy just pushing back in, then pulling the rest from bilge.

Not trying to shift it without running
