Did I Get A Killer Deal?
1996 302/OS paid $19,250 w/ 2009 Aluminum 3 Axle trailer, surge brakes.
Compression test done 454 MPI's 160's (1), 170's (2), full survey done issues below. In addition to the options in the link below the boat has pop up cleats, shore power, new batteries, flush out potty, 271 total hrs. on hull and 1 engine, 30 hrs on the other. It needs, horn inop, 4 engine tab solenoids, trim tabs. inop., 12v bilge pump & float switch, Refrigerator, rear seat structure is soft/vinyl good, headliner is stained (replacing), cabin carpet is stained (replacing). Other than the vinyl work I get all the parts at cost incl. fridge and a buddy who is a boat mechanic by trade and I do all our own work. Even at retail look like $5k worth of work. Doesn't matter what we think. You already bought it and seem happy with it. Follow your plan and enjoy the boat.
BTW. The 454 mpi's were 310hp if it matters. |
Fix the leaks that prob disturbed the old liner , if your pulling it out , .vortec mpi's arent barn burners but start good use a bit less gas than contemporary carb sub 20k twins , just dont let em freeze.
|
Seal the bench to the floor and toss in a drain if its not already there then seal the seat if subs are there will sound worlds better ,alot easier when its apart. Sounds like alot of boat for 20k

There is also a 7.4 LX motor also. Its the 330 hp. Looks like the mag mpi intake, but says 7.4 LX on the top.

How do I tell the difference?
The boat will not be in my possession for 2 more weeks. Its going directly to the upholstery shop 150 miles away to get freshened up. NADA SAYS YOU GOT A DEAL -BUT YOU CANT BE SURE 'TIL YOU POST PICS ON OSO AND GET IT BOARD APPROVED:daz: SOUNDS LIKE YOU SCORED-ENJOY IT |
What killed the price is the LX engines. Plus it is a laundry list of small things to do on it. Do the work your self you will be money ahead .

Im pretty sure they had a bravo peanut port tbi ,vortec head mpi, efi mag weber carb mag all in that 96-97 span .the difference between a ho hum 454tbi and a good 7.4 mpi could seem like alot more than 20hp. Dont know if the tbi (7.4 efi) was offered in the baja. Its more of a b3 big boat kind of mill

You may already have cockpit floor drains that go under the bench into the bildge. If not it would be a good time to add them if seat cushions and hatch covers are off

CHECK YOUR DECK HATCHES AND CLEATS FOR LEAKS WHILE YOU'VE GOT HEADLINER OUT
NADA SAYS YOU GOT A DEAL -BUT YOU CANT BE SURE 'TIL YOU POST PICS ON OSO AND GET IT BOARD APPROVED:daz: SOUNDS LIKE YOU SCORED-ENJOY IT I saw the boat late last week and got a estimate on the HL as well as where it comes down on the walls to the top of the wrap around seat, V-berth, counter etc. The upholstery shop wanted $2500-$3000 to replace it with a material I absolutely hated. They said they will not put vinyl in for headliners etc. The material was like a low pile carpet with whiskers, cream color (my cabin is white/gray), and IMO had a 1980's feel to it. Going to attempt to put the HL back up in the 2 places where it's starting to fall and clean the surface mildew from it. There is zero water damage to the HL, just the aforementioned for being shut up and not used in a humid environment for 1.5 yrs. In the cabin pic below the v-berth cushions are being changed to new with the center 2 being white vinyl and the outer 2 wedges gray to match the accents on the wrap around seat. The carpet is being replaced with a lower pile, similar color and a cockpit carpet is being made of the same material. https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a...D550/ry%3D400/ https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a...D550/ry%3D400/ https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a...D550/ry%3D400/ Can see where corner is falling here. Burner and counter step will be deleted. https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a...D550/ry%3D400/

The work is being down by myself with the assitance and know how of a friend who is a career marine mechanic/electronics wiz. All parts are at cost +5% or so. Things like refrigerators that they have sitting around at their shop which are new and other's had removed to add storage will be below cost. All labor is free, of course I'll hook him up for the holiday's etc.

Hello, I have a similar issue with my headliner for 199-302. What material did you end up using for the HL?
Thanks Dan |
