33 Outlaw ground wires
Im sure it is a long shot, but will try.
Above each engine in the wiring harness's there is a ground wire cluster that is crimped together. There is a main 8 or 10 gauge wire then 3 or 4 smaller 12 or 14 gauge wires all crimped together and wrapped in tape. I know the 8 or 10 gauge wire goes to the distribution block on the transom. My question is what are the other 3 or 4 smaller gauge wires running to? 1 is for the bilge blowers I believe but no idea what the others are for. http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...psqlt25xn2.jpg |
They ground on the studs on the bell housing, one on each side of the blocks, should also have a ground on each inner transom plate
|
starts at engine ground Large (rear of engine) to:
Plug (dash ground) Large Alternator Large Starter solenoid -small (at least that is what it was on mine.) Hope this helps you-good luck |
It all helps! Thank you guys! I'll poke my head around more. Maybe there are there and are dangling between the engine and transom some where that I didn't see. Not much room to fit my fat head in there :lolhit:
I didn't notice the 9 pin engine harness ground grounding to it ( I just replaced that), but will double check. I believe the alternator and starter solenoid grounds to the stud on the engine bell housing, not this "junction" in all the wires. This junction is located under the gunwale in with all the other wires. Sorry hard to explain without a photo witch I thought I had. Ill get one tonight. I'm 99% sure one of the grounds leads to the the blower. They look to be accessory grounds (like blowers, lights, hour meters, ect.). But the lights also did not ground there unless it dose some sort of loop. Photo is worth a million words witch I will get. Thank you all again!!! |
Here is the grounds I'm talking about . There is one of these about each engine. The large ground wire(s) comes from the distribution block on the transom, then leads to the other engine, where they are all crimped together again, then continues to lead to the power panel in the cabin.
Will update first post also http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...psqlt25xn2.jpg |
You should also have a larger battery ground cable going directly from 1 motor to the other.

My post was from the engine side of the 9 pin plug. I did not like that factory set up when re-wiring my motor, so I added a ground buss and was chasing wires from this for you.

This junction is located under the gunwale in with all the other wires ??
what year is the boat, my 2000 had nothing like this, I think someone moved it off the transom where it was originally located, or it could be my some timers kicking in |
Yea, my post was for engine, sorry.
Any chance of getting factory wiring diagram? |

what year is the boat, my 2000 had nothing like this, I think someone moved it off the transom where it was originally located, or it could be my some timers kicking in The grounding buss is still on the lower transom. There is 1 behind each engine on the port side of the engine. There is 8 or 10 AWG wire (in the photo, in the split wire loom, next to the hydro steering filter.) that wire leads down to the ground buss, and then the other 8 or 10 awg wire connects these 2 "bunches" of ground wires together and leads to the switch panel in the cuddy. I just don't know what the smaller 12 or 14 AWG wires go to. 1 of the wires is for the blower, I just have no idea where the other 3 grounds went. |
