Baja 33OL
guys.. I have been out of the boat game for some time.. I had a 06 OL 23 and loved it. I did a lapped prop and picked up some nice MPH..
well my question is this. i'm looking purchasing at a 2005 30OL with 496HO and 28 props. I have been on this boat several times and she moves out.. we have see 78 on GPS.. the second boat i'm looking at is a 2006 33OL with the same power plants.. what do you guys think the 33 will run and which is the better boat? thanks everyone for looking and commenting. Mike |
IMO, the 33 OL will give you a better ride but might be a tic slower........all depends where you boat, are they set up with XR's or B1's with stock lowers ??
|
Most likely X drives on either boat. Baja installed many 496 H.O. and X Drive pkgs.
|
The 33OL with 496HOs will run lower 70s. I have friends that had/have both boats with 496s.
They are pretty much the exact same cabin, but the 33 has the monster cockpit. They are both very, very hard to work on, without removing the whole rear seat, and even then some spots are still hard to reach. If you plan to do longer runs on either, be aware that they both have very windy cockpits. This tires out the driver and passengers more than people realize. Either are fine for shorter trips and hanging out while anchored/rafted, etc. etc. |
33, so you don't get a case of "three foot itis" before next summer. Especially if you're going to run it in the Pacific.

33 all the way. I had a 302 then a 342 (same hulls 30 & 33)
The 33 will run 72-74 depending on fuel load. Its really a no brainer. The 33 handles a good bit better. The back seat can be made modular so you can pull it out in 3 minutes. Then they are significantly easier to work on. I wrote a thread on here somewhere on OSO about taking it out, just put some 1x1 aluminum L bracket behind it and it slides out like its on rails. The picture is just to show how it slides up and out then you just stand it up. Probably weighs 60 lbs. |

1. Just put some 1x1 aluminum L bracket behind it
2. Remove the screws along the bottom 3. Take the screws out f the sides (access thru speaker holes) 4. Pull the armrests in a little and slide it out. You're done.... |
Plus the 33 OL was never constructed as a liner boat and the 30 was, so take a close look see.
|
30OL and 33 OL. The 30 is faster, the 33 rides better. The 33 is bigger and bigger is always better. The 30 has a better sleeping lay out if you ask me for overnighting. 33 dance floor cockpit. Both are great boats. I own the 33 and have drove the 30. Both handle the same if you ask me.

thanks guys.. I just but down a payment hold on a 33OL.. waiting for the bank to come back with a go.
|
Congrats. Hope it all goes well for you. I have a 36 which has the same cockpit and just a bit more room in the cuddy. I was looking at the 33s when I got mine but there were not any out there at the right price. I am sure you will be very happy with the boat.

deal is almost finished on it.. Survey came back with a 99.9% being that its a 2006.. hoping to get her in a week or two. just waiting on the bank..
|
Get both sets of props if its an option, good luck........... I was running stock 28's 4 blades on mine with bigger power, they worked well
|
Since you are going with the 33, is the 30 listed somewhere? Where is the 30 located?
|
You'll love the 33!!

Jeff's 2004 33 with 496 ho's. he is also spinning 26's |
I had a 06 33. Stay with the 26's. I ran 28 labbed and 26's were quite a bit better. 73-74 mph is what it will run

thanks for the info... what is Jeff running with the HO's with the 26s? are they lapped ?
He just bought new props since the blades were starting to crack and didn't trust them any more. Last time out he said he can tell it is noticeably slower. His old setup was 76 or 78 was his personal best. Now he is just a few ticks above 70. |

His "old" 26's I believe were labbed. How ever his new ones are not. Just stockers out of the box.

72-74 is the #..............not 78
|
We're at 78 GPS on a good day,500 EFI, Stelling boxes, stock 28p bravos. 33 is a great boat
|
Were talking about a stock 33 OL with HO's..........not a modified boat with at least 100 hp more per side.
good # 24 OL |
He or was at 76 or 78 on the best day and it barley just ticked there IIRC. low fuel, no water, no extras, cold day
As 33outlaw said 70-74 is about the normal the 33's run with normal stock black engines. Unless you have fubared 4 blade props and then you can only see 66 :picard1::party-smiley-004: On a side note I have a set of the 25 mirage plus props that came form Baja on the 33. I'll sell if anyone is looking for a set |
hopefully picking this thing up next week and will take her out on the Chesapeake Bay to get some base numbers..
|
Not enough motor to pull 78 mph. I did it twice, but was running down river to help them out. Doesn't matter. You will love the boat
|
Congrats on it going well so far. Post up some pics once you get it.

I think I know what this means, but what is the short explanation of this statement? Thanks

Liner is a grid system think of a tic-tack-toe board going all the way up the hull to provide rigidity, a stringer boat has two large beams running from stern to bow to give the boat rigidity.
