Hey Guys this is Normans wife. We are looking at buying a 2001 342 Baja in Georgia. They are going to deliver it hopefully in time for the Lake Charles poker run. What is the best insurance company to look at for this boat with 415 HP on both engines. Progressive was ridiculous and Boats Us wanted 6000 a year. We currently have a 2000 252 Baja with American Modern Insurance. They have been great but can't cover the new one.:)

Try Sy Goldberg with Total Dollar Insurance.

They insure my 36 and I am happy with them.

You should give State Farm Insurance an opportunity too. Very competitive rates. You might be surprised. I am.:)

29 OUTLAW 10-11-2002 05:25 PM

NBOA - $900+/- a year for a 2001 29 Outlaw with twin 496HO.

Two things NBOA likes about me:

1) - I use the boat only 7 months a year.
2) - When the boat is not in use, it sits on a trailer in my driveway vs. sitting at a marina, boatel, storage lot, etc.

I second that. If something does happen to go wrong, they seem to be great and send the check quickly.

Hey guys

I was just wondering how you guys get insured through State Farm on your boats? My agent took my boat when I bought it new (in 1999), and about 2 weeks later I got a letter from them saying the corporate office said they are cancelling me because they dont insure boats over 350 h.p.. Same happened to a few of my friends around here.  My agent is a friend of mine and he even went to bat for me supposedly and could not get them to keep it?

I have'nt had any problems with state farm unless they have 500's or larger

I have State Farm ('99 '33 Outlaw with HP500s). Run's about $1,050 a year. No problems. I think a lot depends on your particular agent.

HeyNormans' Wife, I agree with Doc Holiday. I bought a 2003 390 Velocity and could not get a decent quote until I called Sy @ Total Dollar. I have Nationwide on all my toys and houses and they still would not write the big boy. Total Dollars number is 212-689-4477 and their fax is 212-599-6913.

I also had American Modern Home they told me that they were dropping boat insurance. I spent three weeks looking for an insurance carrier to handle my 25 outlaw. In the spring I posted a breakdown of all the carriers I tried, Unfortunately my boat is put away for the winter and the paper work is in there. Overall State Farm was the best price but due to 2 auto accidents they would not carry me. My current preimun is $700 per year with $1000 deductible but they do not pro rate any components with a $60,000 hull value.

ok so I was brain dead when I posted before. Our Insurance carrier is National Marine Underwriters.

I've got State Farm,98 25' Outlaw, little over $500 clams a year.I know my agent said they are getting real sticky on insurance since Sept 11,I just bought a house and they told me if I didn't have my cars, boat, and snowmobile with them and had been a customer for a long time, they probably wouldn't write the house.

State Farm will insure most boats but it helps if you have your cars and house insured with them. If you can get them to insure it, they usually have the best rates.

I have a 29 Outlaw with 454 mags insured with State Farm. $500 deductible about $580 a year.

bajabob38 10-14-2002 10:30 PM

Give old man sy a call, he insures my 38 special, he has the best prices.

BAJA342 10-15-2002 06:56 AM

I have the same boat, SY gave me the best deal. 845-356-7251.

obnoxus 10-15-2002 08:05 AM

We havebeen boating for 10 years all with boat u.s. and have never had a claim, they said thats the only reason the accepted the Baja. A little high, but I am sure I am covered for anything that happens,, agreed value total loss,,, plus I know I am covered for enviromental charges if it ever sinks which can run into 100's of thousands of dollars and something the State Farm guys should look at just to be safe.
