H2x hour meter
Hi everyone, i am new to this forum and it seems to be the perfect place to ask questions and get the right answer. So I'm looking at a couple boats, 1 is a 25 outlaw and the other is a 98 Baja h2x with a 502. Now the issue I'm having is the owner is saying that the h2x does not have an hour meter. The problem is I've never heard of Baja not putting an hour meter in. So where could it possibly be located ? Any advice as to where to look would be appreciated.
Thanks, |
Quite possible the boat doesn't have an hour meter. Obvious places for one are the dash, underside of the dash, on the side near the controls and in the engine bay (look around the side coamings).
I think a Merc of that vintage can be scanned by a dealer to get the definitive hour reading. Can't they scan any of the EFI engines? I'm sure someone will chime in with an answer about the scan, it's always the best way to confirm hours. If all fails, just buy the 25', size matters! RR |
Agree with rak rua buy a scanner it's a handy piece to have when the warning buzzer goes off or take it to a dealer and have them scan it.. or just buy the 25 it's a lot deeper boat with stand up bolsters and a larger cabin.

If is it an EFI (fuel injected) motor it should be able to be scanned by the mercury dealership for an accurate read of RPMs and hours. Places I'd check for an hour meter... Under the dash, within the gauges (Tach or Speedo), under the motor lid mounted on the fiberglass around the engine somewhere, usually one of the two sides.
Even if the 25 OL has an hour meter it might not match the computer. Hour meters can be tied to the ignition key, so there are extra hours beyond what the engine was actually running. Especially if someone accidentally leaves the key on. |
The monkeys at the shop that worked on my last boat left the key on one of the engines. I had a massive battery setup for the stereo, it apparently lasted about 300 hours before they died out. This definitely can happen.

Thank you for all the help, I would love the outlaw but, It has the 7.4 in it. So I may pass on it... from what I have been reading on here, the 7.4 struggles
|
does anyone have any positives about the 7.4, because the outlaw itself is a very nice boat and that's the only thing pushing me away from this particular boat.
|
Which 454 does it have?
