2005 Outlaw 25, 496 Max HO - fuel filter water separator location?

2005 Outlaw 25, 496 Max HO - fuel filter water separator location?
I have looked all over and cant find the Fuel Filter/Water separator.
unless it is a cartridge in the sea pump.

The Mercury Parts guy, Mike at Island Discount Marine in Montgomery Tx, gave me a oil filter type filter/separator
but i could not find it on the boat. i tried calling him a number of times leaving messages with the girl that answered the phone
but he did not return my phones call so i just kept trying till i got him
(very disappointing service). When i finally got him he said he had no idea and was of no help.
My calls to other dealers was no better.

Can anyone please help me with this. I cant believe that there is no Fuel filter/Water separator

not only is everything jam-packed in the engine compartment but the fuel line disappears with the wire looms all tied together with zip ties. it looks like it goes to a big black belt driven box on the left front of the engine when you are looking at the front that i think is the sea pump. that box has 2 plates on it but i did not want to take it apart unless i know thats what i need to do.

It is the box you looking at but is not belt driven, it behind the water pump. Remove 3 screws (item 24 in link below) on the cover with the loop handle. Remove the pieces and also screen on the bottom (item 21) for cleaning

Replace #26 and 21. 21 being a 10 micron filter. Replace these filters annually at minimum. Keep a look out for internal paint peeling inside the filter housing. This is a known problem area on the Merc Gen 3 cool fuel.

a quiz for you guys --- those are fuel filters ONLY what is shown here in the diagrams ---The OP asked about the fuel filter water separator ?? so were is the WATER SEPERATOR and how does one check for water and how does it separate the water from the fuel or does this app NOT have a water separator at all ?

I am NOT asking as I know but want to see if you guys know. A little quiz here

And also with gen III cool fuel how many filters can it have ? 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or how about 5 ? second part of the quiz

Oh great! ^^^^^
You've now got the op twisted around upside down on his back in the engine bay with a flashlight in one hand and a wrench in the other, looking for anything from 1-5 fuel filters that may actually be water separators and possibly don't even exist! :)

Well, I haven't done one myself as the older stuff only finds there way to me...but looking at a few diagrams and filter changing videos, it appears to me the cup that the large filter sits in will hold some water, however the lowest part in any cavity that holds fuel, will also hold the water....as that is how/where water separates (water heavier than fuel)...so, looks like water collects in the bottom of the cool fuel units. Yikes !

BTW, diagram kinda sucks and I did not see where it is in the two vids I watched, where does the #21 screen filter go ?
