Outlaw 23 or 25
I sold my boss hammer and looking to upgrade to an Outlaw 23 or 25. I am on a budget and the price difference on used seems to be $10k. Obviously I can get a newer and low hour 23. Just looking for any advice or info on the two models to justify the price difference. I found a 23 close to me that I'm going to look at. I run mostly Lake Erie and 2-3 footers are pretty common. Looking for a boat that will handle it better than my hammer did. Thanks

Going from memory... Others please correct me if necessary. The 23OL has 1 degree less deadrise than the 25 or 26 OL. The 25 and 26 are more comparable boats, where the 23 is a full model step down. The 25OL turned into the 26OL when it was redesigned.
The 23OL and 26OL are liner boats, the 25OL is a stringer boat. |
Ive read a few negatives about the 23's construction. If you search a bit you might find that some had problems whereas almost nothing bad said about the 25 which is pretty good when you think how many of them were made. I was looking at 25's before I settled on a Donzi but all the research I did said they are a great boat. An extra 2' and a bit more weight makes a huge difference but as you correctly suggest, it's gotta fit the budget too.
Happy shopping. RR |
Seems to be a pretty nice boat, conservative colors and nearby. Price is high though:

If you're boating on Erie then go as large as your wallet allows!
For there size the older 24 and newer 25/26ft Outlaws do handle the rough decently |

So are the 23 that bad or are the 25 that much better?

Do the 23s have stand up bolsters? Its a Must once you get in one.

This guy bought the boat from New York. When I went to go look at a diff outlaw 25 he had it was sitting next to it. Little fishy situation but I think he just flips boats. Takes off everything screwed or bolted on and paints them. Re powdercoats. Cleans and sell. Just a FYI. He was located in lapeer.
Theres a nice one in midland. 2001 500 hoursh https://centralmich.craigslist.org/boa/d/baja-outlaw/6211024852.html |

he was a weird cat.

If you can wait I would save up for the 25. I run a 23' checkmate on lake Erie which has a similar hull. Not sure if the dead rise is the same, mine is 22* I think. But it's only fun up to about 2 footers. Once you get threes it starts to get interesting.... And more like work unless your in the zone and like airing your boat out.

Yeah, deep down I know a 25 would be better. I'm going to go look at a 23 Sunday just so I can see for myself how big or small it is.

Don't know about location for you but this recent listing looks halfway decent for around 30k....

I've never ridden in either baja but i know the ride difderence from my buddies 223ls to my 242ls is a big difference. I imagine the baja would be the same. I know you can find a nice 242 for cheaper then the newer baja if you dont mind having an older boat

And it's just the 496 mag. Not HO

Have ridden in old school 24 outlaw/240, 232, and 25 outlaw- my first choice would be the old 24' and then 25'- the 232 won't be any better than the Hammer when it gets sporty.
I cant get over these asking prices. |
