2004 29 outlaw questions

Hello all ,
i searched around but couldn't find a lot of info , What is the actual (any day fuel and beer full boat)top speed i should see out of a 2004 29 outlaw with Twin 496 mag 375hp with a 4 blade props . Also , I am coming from a 272, is this boat that much bigger (cockpit and cabin) and is the ride that much better ? my buget is 50k and it has to be 30 foot or less and would like to get the most turn key boat with good looks and decent performance.I lost never overnight on the boat but like having a cabin ,My 272 did an honest 70 with a 496 stoker that was a good reliable motor but i was always nervous about it having a failure. Your opinions would be appreiciate, thanks

It wont be as fast as the 272, Id say low to mid 60's

29 Outlaw is a roomy boat but a total slug with a single engine.

I personally like the Nordic Heat, Howard Bullet and Checkmate 300 for a single engine, 30ft ride

A friend has the same boat. He runs right about 70

Agree with 70. I had a 29 with twin 6.2s that ran a consistent 63 full of people and drinks/crap. With an extra 55hp per side should not be an issue to hit 70. Overall a great boat - you won't regret it.

I had a 1999-29' with twin 7.4 mpi (454) and it did 65mph full with 24 four blade Merc props.

Was this a 330 HP?

Dnsteininger 01-30-2018 07:18 PM

It had the 385hp fuel injected 7.4 MPI's, it was slightly faster with the original 25's props but it would blow out trying to plane and it was better planing and docking with the 24's. Boat was great in the ruff water ( Georgian Bay-Lake Huron) but now I have upgraded to a 36' Outlaw, and it was the the Doc Holiday 36'.

I have a 99 with 454 mags, 385 hp, 25 three blades. I've only seen 71 mph. It might have a little more than that. I really like the boat. I'm coming from a 25 outlaw.

We bought a 00 29 w 454 mags 385 HP new. Friend still has it. I think its over 1100 hours or so w NO motor work. Great Motors!!
The only real issue was the cool fuel vapor lock. Fixed that and all good.

thanks

Thanks for the info guys , any 496 mag (375) 29 owners ?if so what rpm do you see with a non ho motor? I read that Baja raised the x dim in this boat after 2002 and started equipping them with 4 blade 26p bravo ones. would that make the post 2002 boats a hair faster ? when putting the numbers in a prop calculator the boat will barley pull 70 and thats with a 26 pitch 1.5 gears and 11.5 slip @ 4800rpm .
