Mods for a blower to fit 24 Outlaw??

For the guys who have installed a blower on a 24 Outlaw, how much modification needs to be done to the seat?? Do you have pictures? Considering this route for next season. Thanks, Allan4

HOOD SCOOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p

Smitty 10-22-2002 07:23 PM

What kind of blower are you thinking of installing?? I put a Whipple on mine in 2001 and had to modify seat (it's a 95 24 Outlaw) I think you are near me (Chicago area) If so you can come have a look or I can try to send some pics (good luck!!)
The boat will be inside heated storage with the motor out so you have all winter to come check it out. Let me know

Dave

Lets just do this the way we did CFD5's 25 Outlaw. You go for parts and me and Hadley will break out the saws when you leave. Less stress for you and more fun for us.

Man Allan, that Checkmate really got to ya, huh:p

HyperBaja 10-23-2002 03:54 PM

Didnt you say you didnt want a Whipple? Also, didnt you say the engine is real low in the boat and there is a lot of room above the engine under the hatch?

Next year it will be that little red baja... If only i find a great deal of money and my dad develops a split personality who will let me touch under the hatch :D

Luv-N....HAHAHAHAAAAA, man, I just could not beleive that, that crazy SOB went by me like I was still in the parking lot. You talk about stunned!!! Holy hell, that was just a riot. However, I have been thinking about this blower idea for a few months now....ya know, it's an addiction.;)

Hyper....:D :D

Merlin, hey I got plenty of room up top, it's the front that is the problem. Byron was talking about smaller pulleys. I'll call you in a couple weeks. I need to think about this 9.9:1 cr I have as well. Keep boost under 3-5psi?????Is it even worth while then, I knowit takes power to spin the blower. Also, I need to talk to you about getting something put together on the river for next weekend. I'll call you this weekend. I'm out of town right now. We missed you up at Alum. Fun time.

12......HAHAHAAAAAA< last thing I want to see when I leave is Hadley with a beer in one hand and a saw-zaw in the other with that **** eatin' grin. Not a pretty thought.....leaving my little Baja to endure that rath.....HAHAHA>.....looks good in Timmy's ride though:D

Bigwavz, no a Whipple is a little out of my price range. I will probably talk to a few buddies of mine (merlin is the 1st on the list) to see what they think. They usually have some B&M and Littlefield stuff laying around. thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that, because I am planning on going to Chicago sometime this winter.

Really it all comes down to 2 things. 1.) $$$$$, becasue I want to dyno it as well. 2.) How much modification needs to be done to the boat. I don't want to carve the boat up real bad for resale reasons.

Thanks guys for the replies, keep them coming jerkies:D

Allan4,
It doesn't matter what blower you go with, you will still have to modify the seat the same way that I did mine. The problem with the Outlaw is that the seat is multi level and the lower part is what gets in the way.

Mine turned out really cool and it was not hard to do. The only tricky part was done by a friend who builds racecars, I had him fab an aluminum panel to cover the area cut out and then just redid the lower seat back cushion.

From the outside you cannot even tell and I now have full access to the front of the motor to do maint work.

P.M. me if you want to stop by sometime.

Later,
Dave

Big
Yeah, the lower part is what concerns me. It's actually part of the decking in some way, in front of the crank pulley. I'm gonna have to see yours or someone else's who has done this before I make it a go. Just to worried about the mods........:( Thanks, Allan

Allan, let us know. I would love to do one more outing before the year is DONE! I know I can get another boat to come with me. And, we have always wanted to do the Ohio in the Cincy area, so even if its a small turnout, I wouldn't care. Put something together and start a thread. I know those cats who hang out around the Muskingum/Ohio River want to go too. I believe one of them hang out on OSO. RTBNT is his name?

Get something going man, and start a thread so we can get the news out, nextweekend is coming! Let Chris@Riendel know too!!!!!!:D

Chaz.......you KNOW they are big enough, the question is are any of you big enough to ride with me....HAHAHAHAAA Just kidding, we'll have to chat.

Luv, I need to converse with my Cincy bretheren, and I am out of town right now, so I'll post something on Saturday or Sunday. I would say unoffically for now next weekend. I'll post on the main board as a tentative plan. Later

thisistank 10-25-2002 01:10 PM

Allan,

I got your PM. CLEAN OUT YOUR MAIL BOX!!:D
Anyway, I put a worked 525sc (comes with the baby wieand blower) but theres also a super chiller on it. Putting out about 650 HP.

Cutting out the back seat is not a big deal at all really.

First you need to pull the back rests out. You'll see it's just a piece of vinyl covered ply wood. Measure the area you are going to need to cut into this. Then cut a hole in it! :D You will need to cut UP and INto the wood (basicaly the back support and the seat support)

The seat cusions, you will see, come out in three parts. Theres two back pieces and the bottom piece thats on the hindge for the storage area under the seat. I had to cut into the bottom back rest and actual cusion only. Not the upper back rest.

I first pulled the vinyl back by tauking the staples out. Then I cut into the bottom back rest. I thought this was just a bige 4x4 but it's not. It is hollow. After cutting the right amount out (about 2"x4") I stapled the vinyl back into place using a BIG ASS staple gun!;) :D

Then I cut the cusion out. Again about a 4"x2" piece. wrapped the vinyl back around and stapled into position. I put everything back checked the clearance....which is only like 1/2 an inch!

You can't see the blower pulley when the seat is all back together but if you lift the rear bench up to get into the storage you can see it. Thats where bigwavs cover comes into play. I still need to have one fabricated, which I plan to do. This will keep towels, shirts, or say little fingers from wrapping up in the belt.

I did it myself and it's not THAT pretty, but then again you don't see it when the seat is all together. But I will take some pics here soon and send them to you or post them on here.

Good luck man, theres nothing like that wieand blower whine on my boat when I"m haulin ass!! I get all my neibors saying they can here the whine and the dry exhaust from our block on the beach when I"m running out in the ocean! It is sweeeeeeeeet!:D ;)

Allan4 10-27-2002 06:12 PM

Tank, Okay, I think I have the basic idea. So, the crank blower pulley spins under the seat?? Is that right?? IT looks to me like ther needs to be some carving right below that, is that what you were talking about hollowing out?? Pics would be great, probably better if you post them here if that is okay. Yeah, looks like I may give this thing a go, we'll see. Thanks everyone for hte input, keep it coming if you have any other info. Thanks,....the head humper........ :D

Oh yeah, I'll clear my pm box right now....Take 'er slllloooowwwwwww.

thisistank 11-01-2002 01:19 PM

Allan, Yes the pulley for the blower turns basically into the seat. NO further carving needed than what I stated above. the back seat support (vertical and horizontal) and the back seat cushion (vertical and horizontal) not a big deal.
