Baja Hammer, thoughts?

Baja Hammer, what was the intent for building this. What comes to mind when you see a Hammer?

For my self it seems like a rocket for low dollars, my family is just having a blast. It also seems very fast for what it is. I read someplace it was considered the corvette of boats at one point in time.

Had a 2000 hammer, great boat, handled decent for a 21', ours had the 7.4 310 hp and it ran mid, upper 60's everyday, I personally liked the hammer over the donzi, velocity, and scarab, it was a great first boat for us to get into the performance boat world

My first Baja boat was a ‘99 Hammer w 7.4 / 310 hp bought in ‘99. I had a blast that season before trading up to 272 w 454 mag mpi. I really enjoyed everything about the Hammer but just needed a bigger boat. You’re right on the mark with your impressions.

Gateway drug. :D
I know several folks who started out in Hammers, and all of them moved up to bigger boats within a few seasons.

My first boat was a 97 hammer with a 310hp 454 with ported heads and stainless marine exhaust. Boat ran 68-70. Great boat very spacious and had a built in cooler in the floor which I loved. I now have a 22 progression with 380 kplanes and a 300xs. Totally different animal but the Baja hammer will always have a place in my heart. Like posted above. Gateway drug.

I agree with this statement completely... We put 6 hours on our Hammer and traded it for a 25OL.

If you have small water, want to look cool and sound nice it is a great boat. But personally, I would skip it and go right to a H2x or a 25 OL.

I had a used 97 with a 330 hp 7.4 in it. Blew up in two months. Stuck in a new 454 stroked out to a built 496. 75+ all day long. Didn't like heavy chop but could really run in the flatter stuff.

We are at 74mph with 7.4mpi, flashed ecm, KN, replaced TB gasket. Labbed 23p and 25p Mirage Plus props by BBlades. 23 p gives us 70mph at 5100 rpm, 74mph on 25P labbed at 4900 rpm. Best boat ever. We have big Chap we use for family activities, I just haul butt in the Hammer with a friend. Been great to have. 410 hours on the engine.

Is the Hammer the same hull as an Islander? Just no bow seating?

correct with about 400lbs extra on the bow. The Hammer hull needs to ride on the rear pad.
You can see my Hammer here pick up the bow when i accelerate by my other boat. look at :28 you can see the bow lift.
