How to clean Baja seats etc.
How do you get the tons of white "leather" on seats and engine hatch clean? Interior cleaner takes most, but I'm left with two things.
1. The occasional long dark mark, probably from a previous owner's guests with non-white soles on their shoes. 2. Also, very small marks on large areas, thousands of them, seems to come from boat standing outside in my damp weather country. Miracle products? Or just old school advice on these two? Thanks |
If a vinyl cleaner or mild degreaser (simple green) doesn’t do it then try a magic eraser with a cleaner. Just remember the magic easer is an abrasive and actually removing material so don’t scrub hard on just one spot or you will see an overly clean spot.

Magic Erasers but some people say they can damage the stitching so be careful.

The LA Awesome stuff @ Dollar Stores works great on a LOT of stuff.
I dilute and use it to clean my siding and eave troughs. Full strength is pretty harsh, takes the paint off. |
I found using a scrub brush that is actually made for upholstery makes a big difference. The bristles are very fine and just the right stiffness so they actually get into the grain and clean it without damage. The non specific brushes I tried before had larger diameter bristles that didn't get into the fine grain.

If awesome and a magic eraser used together doesn't take it off then its there to stay. I've cleaned quite a few with this combination and it works great.

I like Murphys Oil Soap for cleaning upholstery. Safe and effective.

Once a big sweaty guy in a red T-shirt stained my seat really bad. Nothing would clean it, even magic erasers, but over time the sun bleached it clean! The boats stays garaged when not in use too.

Starbrite Extreme Clean works very well. Kind of pricey, but designed to be used on boats and vinyl. Boat Bling Vinyl Sauce works great too. |

I started this post, and have after seeing that advice above, I have now pretty nice white seats in general. But I still have one specific problem. My boat unfortunately is parked outside in damp Denmark winters, and when taking the cover off it after a month or two, the white seat areas where the black cover rests on are dirty, black patches. I can normally clean 95% away, but always plenty of very small black dots stay, can't get them off. A kind of fungus? Don't know. Is there any good chemistry that can make the seats all white again?

yes, let it soak for a few seconds and scrub with a soft brush.
