33' Outlaw pad

I know they raised the X-dimension on the 2003 model but I heard the 8" pad was not going to be available until 2004. Is this true?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They tested it in the last issue of Powerboat Mag. I think the speed was between 76 to 78 with 496HO's.

This is very interesting to say the least.

At the recent Charlotte boat show I noticed a little different transom design on the new 25 Outlaw there.

Baja seems to be making an effort to bring more speed without the dangers of the stepped hull.

Check out the article.

I heard the 30' had a different transom also and that they would eventuallly end up changing all the Outlaws. The changes are supposed to help reduce drag from what I hear.

Will the pad bottom increase speed at the expense of rough water ride? The deep vee ride is what I love about my 29. I would hate to see them change that but then again they could be a little faster.

I don't think it's supposed to sacrifice the ride quality at all.

pad bottom

velocity and fountain both have a pad bottom whereas the deadrise from the keel up about a foot each side has a shallower deadrise. Baja utilized a delta pad on their 25 o/l which is a flat spot instead of a pad bottom. I doubt there is much benefit to an eight inch wide delta pad on the 33 because fountains and velocities are considerably wider. Just my .02:rolleyes:

I finally received the new powerboat mag with the 33 test.
I noticed that it had the 380s K-planes as opposed to the 280-s which are normally on that boat. baja installs those on their boats that are running extension boxes so I assume this boat had extension boxes although it isn't mentioned in the article. That would explain the 30 inch props as all of the 33's w/496 H.O. boats come with 26 inch props. The speeds of this boat are consistent w the 33's running the same engines arond here. The delta pad did little if anything as per the top end speeds that were posted.:p :p

garshev,
I saw that also. Really studied the picture and could see a drive shower tube. I still can't tell if it had boxes but it had the 380s for sure. With the options it had (ac, shorepower, fridge, etc) the speed was faster than I expected. In Hot Boat they tested a Fountain 35 Ex. with the same power. The Ex has one step a pad and a notch, and ran the same speed as the 33OL. According to all the talk, The fountains are the benchmark for speed numbers, but it seems that the 33 might be running better than alot think. Just my opinion.
