Whats the dif between a 24 and 25 Outlaw?
Hey guys
I am looking to mobe up from a 20 foot Wellcraft Nova to a 24-27 foot boat. I have been looking at the 25 Outlaw, but in my searching I have come across a few 24 Outlaws. What is the differences between the 24 and the 25, and is there any real advantage to either one. Speed rough water handling, cockpit room etc?? Thanks Don |
Both boats are excellent in the rough. I believe the 24 has a 8' beam while the 25 has an 8'4" beam. The 25 has a nicer cabin and a fiberglass cockpit liner which is nice. I would guess the speeds are both about the same. I owned a 25 and enjoyed the boat with no complaints at all. Either choice is a good one!;)

If you can afford it, get a 25. Better cabin. I bought a new 24 Outlaw in 1998. That year they offered both models (it was the last year for the 24 and the first year for the 25). I opted for the 24 based on my budget. A 25 with the same power ran about $8000 - $10000 more that year.

Don,
I have a 97 Outlaw. GREAT BOAT! Handles killer in the rough. The 25 obviously looks a different. I think they designed it to look a bit more like the 29's, 33's, and 36's with the swooping lines and a bit more rounded instead of the traditional hard offshore lines of the 24. I always thought the 24 Outlaw looked like an Apache or Cig. Look at it close and you will see what I'm talking about....Flat deck, straight wind screen, straight stern. Thats one of the reason I bought the boat. I love the traditional offshore lines, istead of the more euro lines of some of the other boat co.'s. I bought my Outlaw new in 97 and it has the plumb/purple "splash" graphics which I personally think were the best graphics for the 24 Outlaw from all the years it was available. Mine's for sale man. Just put 19K into a new motor. a worked 525SC weind blower, super chiller, gil dry exhaust, wpm dual ram steering, MSD ignition.....boat runs like a bat out of hell and completely turn key. still has a warranty on the motor for another few months. I'm asking 40k...thats what I owe on it. I just want to walk away form it so I can get a Top Gun or Cafe. Heres some pics. whichever you get, you'll be happy. Both boats are a huge difference compared to the 20. Good luck bro. |

There is a difference in the 24 and 25 Hull. Both are sweet boats but the 25 is faster and rides better in the rough. I run with Allan4 who has a 24 (I have a 25) and the 25 is better in the rough, the cockpit is bigger with a larger door to get in the cuddy as opposed to a cut out under the dash. Both boats are sweet, Allan4's boat runs hard and you really can't go wrong with either, I would suggest the 25. Mines for sale. I have attached a pic of mine and Allan4's boat side by side for comparison, the 25 is the black w/ red flag.

I have in narowed down to 2 boats the Outlaw 25, and the Active Thunder 25. They both look like great boats. |
either boat will be a big step up from your 20' boat, if money is not a problem find a newer 25, if money is tight and or you might move up to a bigger boat in a year are so find a 24, shop around till you find a killer deal, then that way when you sell you will come out even are ahead

Dons Bolt, My first boat was a 22 Baja, Great little boat but took it up to Lake Erie and found out real quick it was time to move up. 2nd boat was a Baja 272 w/502Mag, again great boat, only ran around 65MPH but would chine walk at top speed, traded it in on my 2001 25 Outlaw, 496HO. Ran 67-68 GPS stock and was much better in the rough than the 272. I don't run in too rough of water but the Ohio River can get nasty every once in awhile. Took the 25 to Jacksonville FL. once and ran it in 4-5 footers heading out the jetti (sp). Handled it much better than I thought, very easy to drive in the rough. I was not uncomfortable at all in those conditions. Like I said, I run with Allan4 alot, been in his boat a couple times, his 24 is sweet and runs great but my 25 definataly runs much smoother in the rough (poker runs, etc.) I think with equal HP the new 25 is faster, larger pad on bottom and notched transom. Maybe Allan4 with chime in with more on the 24. I put a procharger on it this summer and I have seen a best of 76 on GPS (need to tweek the prop a little) and it handles the speed excellent, no chine walk at all, I would feel very comfortable at 80+ in my boat. I am putting out around 550HP and Allan4 is around 520HP (much more torque though) and he runs around 72GPS.

Don - I'd be more concerned about finding the right boat for you...price/hull/condition...than the distance. My first Baja, a 22 like CFD's, came from Ohio (I'm in Texas). A hundred bucks to have it gone through by a dealer there and a thousand to have it trailered here and two years later I sold the boat for a couple hundred bucks more than I paid, even after a sales commission for my broker. Oh...and I did buy another Baja, a Boss 272, from Dallas this time.
If you find a good boat, find someone you can trust there to check it out. Heck...post something on here and you might even find some guys willing to go take a first look for you and give you an opinion if it's worth paying a shop to look at the boat. Eric |
ONE FOOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aw cmon,,, SOMEONE had to say it !!!! LOL

25 Outlaw
Mine '99 Outlaw is for sale at LOTO due to divorce. Email for details and photos if you're interested ... awesome, clean boat!

I've had both , the 25 is 1 foot longer 2'' wider and 250 pounds heavier. The 25 is about 2 mph faster with the same power and handles a lot better. The 24 is a nice boat that handles rough water well, It was maily the cabin difference and cabin door and cockpit liner that turned me on to the 25. The styling on the 24 is just a little dated imo

Originally posted by Don's Bolt Wow thats a nice motor, if you were closer to me I would have to seriouslly concider yours. Being across the country makes it a little unrealistic. Who makes the blower on your boat, it kinda looks like a whipple, am I right. Come on Don!! A little plane flight and rent a u-haul once you're out here to drag the boat back could result in an awsome boat for you!!!:D :D :D :D |

I love the boat, but I would trade it for a 25 for two reasons.....1.) The handle on the 25 is much superior...2.) the 25 interior is nicer and bigger. I do like the lines on the 24 much better. I am with Tank, I really like the traditional squared off look of the 24. I have mine dialed in just about right and can run without a chine walk at WOT, but you gotta drive it to keep it straight. I would concur that the 25 is 1-2mph faster all things consistent. I will also add in that if you want a TON of boat for 40k, pick up Tank's 24. He has a rockin sound system and about 100 more hp than me. I run about 72-74 (CFD5 was a little low on my #'s) with 520hp and Tank probably sees close to 80 with his 525sc. If you are looking for a 25, I bet you would be hard pressed to find a better 25 than CFD5's. It is/was for sale. The procharger makes that thing run awesome. It runs much more stable than mine....although he is a boob.:D Good luck, hope this helps. A4 |

This is my buddy Johno's 24 Outlaw. I thought I'd post it for him since his lazy ass never brings a camera out with him.:) This picture was taken today. It's the first time I've seen his boat in a couple months. Since then he installed new pads on his swim platform, new lonseal flooring, and hydraulic steering. His boat looked showroom new today. He did a fantastic job on that flooring. Oh yeah, he has an HP 500 sitting in his garage waiting to be installed in it.

He also managed to keep his nickname as the "Sandman" by filling the intakes with it at Shell Island today.:) Oh yeah, before he says anything, I managed to shine my props there today too.:(

Thanks for all the replies
Rough water hadling is very important to me, since I boat in the rough waters of Cape Cod. So it looks like the 25 is a better boat for me. Tank it is to bad you are all the way across the country from me. Cuda you luck dog you, we are getting rain, freezing rain and just plane old crappy weather up here. At least the snow is melting, but we still have about 2 months before it is boating weather. I am going up to Lake Winnapasaki to look at a 25 Outlaw this week, and next week I am going down to Florida to look at a 25 Thunder. So thanks for the info, this is a great board. |
Not trying to stick my nose in here... but I looked at both of those models, and next to them was a 272, same year, engine and price as a 24 Outlaw. Guess which one I went home with ;)
