Fixed mount GPS install
I just bought a Standard Horizon CP-150 GPS and am curious where others have mounted both the head and antenna on theirs (regardless of brand). Boat is a '33 Outlaw. I'm thinking of mounting the head on the shelf right above the cabin door.
Thanks |
Dude,
That's exactly where I have my Garmin 162 mounted. The problems I ran into were twofold: First, there's no practical place on or above the dash because everything is curved; Second, I wanted to keep my installation completely portable and not hard wire anything. I bought a cig. lighter adapter for the power supply and I trimmed the coax. antenna wire just long enough to reach the short distance. Both my antenna and gps unit are mounted on the platform above the door. The view is perfect and I can make out everything clearly. I only regret not taking pictures to show. |
Thanks Daze

I'm pretty new to GPS, the boat I bought used has a Garmin GPS III+ on it, I still have to read more of the manual, but here is where it is mounted, right in front of the steering wheel, see photos posted, they are not the best, but you get the idea. Eric

the Garmin GPS III+ is fairly small bajadude, the one you are looking at may be a lot bigger, I don't know. I'm just giving you an idea. Hope it helps, Eric
PS - You can see the screen just fine while operating the boat, and it stays put, it has a good mounting bracket. The bracket you are seeing on the right side in the second photo is a cell phone mount that I already took off, the GPS unit is directly behind the steering wheel. |
Thanks Big E,
Yeah, the one I've got is a bit bigger (actually its replacing my Garmin III+). I want to permanently mount it, and the only place I can come up with is the "shelf" above the cabin door. That leaves me with mounting the antenna (somewhere). |
Big E,
I think you need to shave your bolsters:p J/K |
Here is where I put my Garmin 162 on my 24 Outlaw
