Houston Propellor, Darin - Satin Finish

As some of you may know, I was the winner of a contest that was hosted by Darin and Kim at Houston Propellor Service. The winner would receive a free Satin Finish on a prop of their choice in exchange for testing the prop before and after to determine if a satin finish has any effect on performance verses a polished finish.

I tested the prop, a Merc Mirage Plus 23P, on Saturday, March 22.
It was 82deg, 80% humidity, Light Winds(5knots), light chop. The tides were calm when I tested, almost high tide(so very slow moving). Pressure was 29.90. I had 1/2 tank of fuel and two people.

My GPS speeds going both North and South were within 0.2mph of eachother. The average top speed was 65.4mph. This is a bone stock 23P Mirage Plus with the factory polish.

Anyway, I received the prop back from Darin today and I will be testing this weekend, weather dependant.

I will post results.

We all know what a polished prop looks like, but attached are pics of a satin-finished prop...I really like the look and feel.

 :)
