Bimini Top For My 302

Does anyone have a bimini top? How high and wide did you get it? Is Sumbrella the best? Know of any good deals? Perhaps even a used one somewhere? Thanks.

I have one for my 29 Outlaw. When deployed, the top is about 44" above the mounting points - this makes for about 7' from the floor to the top. Any higher and it would not block the sun. It is a 4-bow and is 8' long front to back. I can't remember how wide but it's as wide as the cockpit on my boat - duh...

When deployed it works great but I haven't used it in two years. I would use it more except it weighs too much. I had it made with a stainless steel frame. I practically need a crane to lift it into and out of the boat while on the trailer. I know of no way to store it on the boat. If I had to do it again I would get one made out of aluminum vs. stainless. It cost me about $700.00.

Most of the 8' pre-made ones in the catalogs are either 36" or 48" high. I think 36" is too low and 48" is too high. I think I remember seeing a 42" in one of the catalogs but I can't remember which one. If you find one that is 4 bow, 8' long, and 42" high - that's the one you want for your 302. You just have to check the width of your cockpit.

Thanks 29. I found this on www.boats.com. on a brokered boat. It would be perfect. I emailed the marina, but haven't heard back yet.

Hard to tell but the one in the picture looks like a 3 bow vs. 4.

Even though the side skirts look fugly, I think they would be great to have. Especially if you overnight a lot. No worries about rain.

Tim - do want the bimini or the whole camper-canvas package? I had a bimini made for my 26 by John Toich 931-2628, he'll come to the boat. Sunbrella has the best color selections but, contrary to belief, is not waterproof. My 34' full enclosure is Aqualon which is water proof but, is a steel gray only. It is a 2-bow with full window in rear. You'll want your bimin high enough to stand under. I've run mine 50 ish, no problem.

I have also had Jim Huber 553-2886 (New Richmond) do my mooring cover. Great work fair price.

There's also a place on the east side, Rt 28, called "Stitch It", looks like a mom & pop group, might be with a try.

Kentz,

How was John on the price? I started out just looking for the bimini. I would like to keep the one-year-old out of the sun without having to lock her up down below. Then I saw the camper. I though tthat might be cool too. Probably just more **** to carry around.

Makdaddy,

Yes, I'd love some pics. I only have a couple of questions...Where did you get it? What are the height, width and length measurements? How much was it? Do you want to sell it? Is it a pain in the ass to take down? Can you stow it in the bilge or do you leave it up? Is it stainless? If so is it heavy and akward? You know, just the basics. :p

The boat is the only place I have full veto power. Every other aspect of my life I need to check with the boss too.

Greg,

Don't worry about it. Dimensions would be great when you get a chance. I wonder if having the windshield makes a difference?

Kentz,
What year 26 do you have? I have a 94. I was just getting ready to order a top and wondered where others have mouted it on this boat. I would like to mount it outside the snaps for the cockpit cover so I don't have to take it down in the evening when left in the water on the weekends.

This must be the place for all the cincinnati boats......

Didn't know there was so many.

Kentz 07-03-2003 10:07 PM

sorry, my 97' 26 is on its 3rd owner now. It was/is a great boat, In fact I sold it to buy my 340 . If you boat on the river, the 26 is all white-out with teal/purple/blue on the sides, no bow rail. I ordered it new in 96 - 454 mag. sold it in 01.and I had 300-350 hrs on it:eek:

here's a good one I like. I see my old boat out last year floatin downtown. so I go over and do a "nice boat" (we don't know each other) he says "nice boat", "hey how fast will that run", I say "depends which prop i have on and how much load, but 77-80 is a fair range", he says" Oh I'm running right at 75" I say "gee, what do have in it, sounded like a 385 mag"? he says " yeah, its injected though" (man am I good or what), any way the moral is ......as soon as you sell your boat, that mysterious 13 MPH shows up

:D :D
