What did your boat sit on over the winter? Your trailer? Lift?

68! your chitting me Glenora. From 51 to 68 in two weeks? Where did you get that Pool thermo? Just bustin'. My boat was stored on the trailer over the winter. Let me run this past you fella's. I was told today that you could lose a couple of mph's if you use a higher viscosity outdrive lube. Has anybody gained mph by switching to synthetic? If this is true perhaps this could be my problem.

It's true, different lubes will definately effect parasitic horsepower losses through a drivetrain. How much exactly is hard to say, but it will certainly make a difference. Same goes for engine oil. You may get 50, 100 rpms with a lighter weight synthetic.

I've herad guys talk of a pick up with Redline Synthetic Gear Lube. There is a good thread on it right now in Tech.

I just ordered some....been meaning to anyway.

Check your plugs, timing, inside of distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, run out old fuel.....etc........be sure you are using the same oil.....etc....

Basic stuff. It will come back, jsut a little glitch somewhere.

Need,
Maybe one of your bravo outdrives needs to be replaced!
I hope to see you on the lake on tomorrow (with both outdrives!)

:eureka:

the 496 mag is a almost trouble free engine, no dist cap are rotor, has 8 coils, one for each cylinder, what I would do, change oil& filter& drive oil, also look at your props, check for nicks are bent blades this will cost you in MPH, also check to see if your drives are in alignment, one might be toed in more than the other, change your fuel filters, flame arrestor dirty?? check the bottom of your hull, maybe you hit something in the water, any gel coat busted? if all this is ok, then have someone scan the engine, and maybe do a leakdown on the motor, also shake the boat on the trailer, listen for trapped water, you will have to be in a quiet place to do this, I have seen this happen on a lot of Baja's
good luck
