272 Swim Ladder Replacement?
Help!!!
Have a 96 272 and just purchased a 3 step under platform ladder. The current ladder is only a 2 step. The girls are complaining. How do you get to the fastening nuts that are inside the swim platform? Looks like very little room to access from inside the engine compartment. The current nuts inside just spin. Thanks, JimmyBaja |
Great Idea!
I need to do the same thing. Its hard for my 4 yr old.to climb in. Can you call a local Baja dealer or email Baja?

On suggestion, buy the ladder from Baja, they have one that has a push button on the end of the ladder that locks it into place when up. The other models that I have seen from Overtons require a extra strap with a buckle that has to be screwed to the boat. It is a pain. The only place I have seen the one with the built in lock was on the 04 bajas at the Marine Center of Indianapolis. Call them if you need to. For my boat I had to use toggle bolts, there was not way to get to the back side to put the nuts on. My boat did not even come with a ladder.

My 94 272's ladder bolts were loose and I couldn't tighten them, they would just spin. I cut the heads off of them (dremel tool)and pushed the bolts back up in, and I used stainless toggle bolts that came from Boat US, worked beautiful. I used marine sealant around the bolt holes as well to prevent water from getting in. The toggle bolts were near the marine seats in Boat US, thats what they are really designed for, so I figured they would be fine for a ladder.

Jeff,
What size toggle bolts did you use and how many? I was afraid that the toggle bolts would pull through the decking. Thanks, Jim |
tssteph,
What ladder did you use on your 260 ? I have the original two step narrow ladder on my 260. A three step ladder would be much more practicle but might come closer to the lower unit. Also, the newer ladders are wider. Thanks, Gerry |
