Outlaw 29 with Twin 7.4 Mpi speed?
Looking for a 1997 Outlaw 29 with 7.4 MPI's
I figure a solid 65 MPH. Maybe 67-68 with lab props... Somebody with that config out there? |
Is that magnum motors? 385 or 310 HP?
|
310
|
I'm going to guess here, but there are plenty of people hear that know this more than me, but here it goes...
IMO I think lower 60's. I think the solid 65 mph all day is a push. I think you may see solid 65 all day with labbed props, but I'm guessing. See how my guess comes out to the other "professional" opinions:rolleyes: |
I think your right on the money with the solid 65 mph! I have a 98 29' outlaw with 454 mags (carbs) 350 hp each run labbed 26 pitch bravo 1's I see 72 on gps all day.
|
Glad I'm guessing. Thanks ttb:)
|
good luck you will love the ride I sure do like mine.
|
The 97' with 7.4's ( 300 pshp)
that I used to have would run mid 60's gps, and an "optimistic" 72 on the faria speedo 25p mirage +, 4500 rpm. jt |
I have a 99' outlaw with 7.4mpi's, added EMI's, K&n's. ASM ecu mods and labbed 23 mirage pluses. Best speed so far with light/medium load is 68mph. Will do 65/66 mph all day. Air temp has been hot, not much cooler than 105, will do more testing after summer months, hopefully see 69-70???
|
Dallasboats : The carb 300's will run faster then 310's ??? That does not make sense... Can you explain?
|
if the twin is this slow, how will a single with 496HO do, mid or low 50s??
|
62 seems alittle slow to me, but some poeple are probably running that when you consider full load of fuel 160 gal (1280lbs), 5 adults (800-1000 lbs) , coolers and everything else (200lbs), about 100+degress airtemp, and lack of good bumpy water. My speeds stated are very reliable/duplicated. They also seem consistent with the mods that I have made, I est. my hp is about 375-385 (crankshaft) and about 350-360 at prop, compared to the 454 mags @385hp@prop which barely break 70mph, I think I am in the ball park...don't forget about prop styles and drive highth instl which will also greatly affect mph.

4500rpms + 25p = 72mph , Not when I do the math.

comes in:D Anybody that has these "highly accurate" speedo's knows what I'm talking about. They are a real ego booster ( 'til you check it against a gps):D jt |
I have a 272, with the 310 hp. I get an intimidating 55 on the GPS!!! If I run that thru the speed calculator
(HP/weight)^.5 * constant, I get a constant of about 225 Using the same range of weight over dry weight, and the 29 with 2x310hp, gets you about 67 mph, using the single 425 hp gets about 60. Is it reasonable for this hull constant to be the same for a twin vs the lighter single configuration? |
I have a friend that just bought a 1999, 29 Outlaw with 7.4's.
Finally got to see the both on Lake Norman last weekend. He is all smiles after 5 years with the 272 he cannot believe the difference in ride quality. The 272 does good, but Norman is a very rough lake on weekends and he is cruising much faster in the 29. However we were running side by side Sunday and I found myself slowing up for him. When we stopped he ask how fast I was running and my GPS speedo was between 62 & 63 MPH. He had four people in the boat, and I to not know how much fuel or what props are on the boat. Just wanted to share this information. |
