33 outlaw
I am thinking about trading in my 29 Fountain on this 33 Outlaw. Does anybody know this boat. It is at Performance Marine in Oshkosh Wisconson. It is a 98 with 2000 500's in it. The dealer told me these are in because the boat had supercharged motors before. The boat looks to be in good shape, although I have not seen it in person. How do these boats ride. I have driven a 29 sst and it rode good. How is quality, and are there any things that have been weak in bajas such as stringers or fiberglass work that I should look at. Any help would be appreciated.

I know a guy that has 2000 or 2001 33 with 500s. It scoots along about 77 to 80 mph. I have another friend with an 02 33 with HOs running around 73 to 75. Neither one of them have had any structural problems. The boat has alot of room, very comfortable. They are a yacht compared to your fountian.

LOL,
This is one of the reasons I am thinking about it. My wife needs a place to change and a bathroom. The "29" fountain is really about a 27. My oldest is scared to death of the Fountain... to loud and no freeboard. Only had the fountain 1 season and am not that impressed with it other than the looks. Had most of the boat apart and don't see anything that makes it any better or worse than any other boat. In fact some of the construction is downright lousy for what they cost new. (I bought mine used.) |
Bret,
you should be fine with that 33. It's a killer boat and the ride will be very impressive compared to what you're riding in now. The shear size and weight will smooth out most of the chop out there. It's a solid boat, you'd be happy with. I really like the 4-bolster option. That interior is awesome. Good luck. |
Even folks who bash on Baja's always have good things to say about the 33. I have heard it called the "perfect all around high perf boat". I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with that, but what they were getting at is this is just one of those boats that everything seems to fit together just right...The looks, lines, size, wieght, speeds, power, cost...etc....... Like the perfect puzzle...so to speak.
Good luck, killer boat...I will be shopping for one hopefully in the next year or so.... A4;) |
I really like the 29 Fountain, it is a sweet boat. But going from the 29 to the 33 Baja will be an awesome experience.
The room and ride will amaze you compared to the 29. A foot is like a mile when it comes to boats. Lets face it, you are really talking 8 feet more boat here. I have two good friends with 29's and when it gets rough they cannot hang. You will love it! Take the beak and swim platform off and you have 25 foot of boat. The 33 is really 33 feet, 35 feet counting the swim platform. It will eat the rought water up. |

I made a similar trade last year. I went from a 29' Fountain to a 302. I like the Baja for the room and ride (had a baby). I don't think the quality is as good as Fountain though. Mostly fit and finish. Nothing structual. The Baja is a much more comfortable boat to lounge around on. My wife hated how slanted the sun deck was on the Fountain. We both hated climbing up on the deck. The molded steps in the helm are awesome on the Baja!
The Baja doesn't get as much dockside appeal as the Fountain did, but it is much more practical. The only thing I absolutely hate on my 302 is the stupid rounded swim platform. Not an issue on the 33. |
29fever,
I've got a '99 33 with HP500s (mine are carb'd). I can run 75 (gps) with a normal load. Boat rides and handles great. I've had no problems (other than normal stuff), and can't really think of anything major I would change. |
I agree with Allan {cant believe i just said that!}
Baja got it perfect with the 33 Outlaw. It just looks "Right" |

Hey BRET,
If you want freeboard, you came to the right place (Baja). A few weeks ago I was bored, took this picture, and posted it. It’s the view I see when I sit in the bolster of my 29 Outlaw. Is this enough freeboard for you? (I’m 6’-0” also) |
If you thought the ride in the
29 SST was good, you'll love the 33. I own a 29, I have driven a couple of 33's, the 33's do ride better in the rough stuff. my.02 jt |
Bret, Ive ridden in the 33. Its a big boat feel. It rides bigger ,better and faster than mine 29. Its more of a flat deck than the bubble deck on the 29. Go fo it you will LOVE it I really like the 4 bolster look and the kids should like the bolsters instead of the back seat. I have talked several times to Rod Dash over the phone trying to work a trade before I bought the Cig and also have talked to him about re-powering the boat also. I trust his knowledge and would highly recommend him. He always take time to explain things and always returns calls and E-mails in a timely manner
Lets get your house rocked and taped though before you spend the rest of your money LOL |
I HAVE A 97 322 WITH 600S, AND I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BOAT.IT RUNS IN THE MID 80S AND IT HANDLES BIG WATER EXTREMELY WELL!!! TOM

I 've got a 94 32' which is basically the same hull with blower motors. Everyone I've let ride on it can not belive the "big boat" feel and handling. I've rode in a 35 fountian that felt like riding in a skate board. (I don't mean to start anything with the fountian guys)

Here's another example of freeboard. Look closely at this picture. The 29 Outlaw in the background dwarfs the 32 Dominator in the foreground.
