25 Outlaw

Have a friend looking at a new one, have a couple of questions. How fast with 500 efi? How does it handle rough water?

CFD5 09-01-2003 07:38 PM

I would say low 70's on GPS. They handle the rough pretty well for a 25 footer. How rough are you talking about? I run in the Ohio river / Lake Cumberland mostly and you can come across some nasty water on the river and I've never had a problem. I ran it once in the ocean in 6'+ and while it was not comfortable (fun for me) it actually did pretty well. I have a procharged 496HO in mine, about 550HP and I run 75gps with a best of 77.8GPS. If he's interested in a used boat (2001 25) mine is for sale. Let me know.

Thanks for the info, I will tell him about your boat. I happen to dig through some old powerboat issues last night and found where they tested one with a 500 efi, I think it was in 2000? They said 73 mph on radar. He boats on the Ohio River and at Kentucky Lake the most. He likes how my H2X rides but likes the look of the Outlaw. I told him I thought the Outlaw would ride quite a bit better in the rough water than the H2X.

The Outlaw will be night and day as far as rough water with the H2X. Before the 25, I had a 272 and my 25 is much better in the rough. I think the 73 should be about right with the right prop. I am running a labbed 27P 3blade. With some more tweeking on the prop I think I could pick up a couple more, with 3 people on board I'm getting 74-75 at 4900rpm. Rev limiter is 5150. 77.8 was just me, 1/4 tank fuel, cool weather racing Allan4!!

The other responses are right on. The 25 rides and handles very well for its size. It's a very stable boat that can handle most conditions easily within reason. About 72 with a 500.

CFD5,

tell me a little more about why or more importantly, differences which allow the 25 outlaw to be better in the rough than your previous 272. I have considered this as a possible step even though it is not immediately obvious as a step up.

CFD5 09-02-2003 12:12 PM

To tell you the truth, I don't know. The 25 Outlaw has a 24 deg. V. I believe the 272 is 22 or 23. I never really compared the bottom but my 272 had a tendency to chine walk at top speed. (64 mph) My outlaw has no chine walk at all, at any speed. The 272 would slam upon reentry where-as the 25 usually lands nice and soft. There pretty close in size. 27' w/ swim platform. Not measured on the Outlaw. The cockpit is smaller on the Outlaw but I believe the cuddy is larger. It just seems to carry the bow much better than the 272. (doesn't fly as much)

CigDaze 09-02-2003 12:19 PM

The 25 is a better balanced boat than the 272/275 and has a slight edge in weight; 4750lb vs 4400lb. The deadrise(at the transom) are the same at 24deg. The hullform lofting is different for both boats and has a lot to do with ride and performance.

WRedmann 09-02-2003 02:31 PM

Is there a similar difference between the 29 outlaw and the 302, as well as the 33 outlaw and 342?

Is the hull design "tuned" differently for the performance series? Why would Baja not borrow much of the tool definition for both lines of boats?

But, Im not doubting anyone, too often I have heard of the 25ol being a better running boat than the 27x.

I had a 272 and it also chine walked at full speed, 63. The boat also rode rough. I sold that thing after one season.
