29 outlaw wind question?

How bad is the wind when sitting in the bolsters on a 29 outlaw? My wife planted the seed last night that she would like to have a bigger boat. She threw out a 29 outlaw as a example. We took a 29 scarab out over the weekend and she really liked the ride and the speed compared to our boat (approx 70 GPS). I like the look of no windshield but she has a concern about the 29 outlaw and wind. Also what engines were available in say 1998 and what speeds could be expected?

Thanks
Brian

No problem with wind in a 29 Outlaw while seated in the bolster. In fact, you can barely see over the dash when seated. The attached picture is the view in my 29 Outlaw while seated and I'm about 6 feet tall. I have to sit on a cushion.

A 29 Outlaw will dwarf a 29 Scarab. It's like apples and oranges.

How much do you want to spend on a 29 and how fast do you want to go? I have a mint 2001 with twin HO's that will run 79+ on GPS. It's yours for $80,000.

Thanks for the info. I am still looking to see what I want. But your boat sounds exactly what I want. why are you selling? Looks like there are several 29's that people are trying to get rid of on the board.

I want a boat that is fuel injected, runs 70+ mph stock, good ride, racy appearance, and with decent cockpit space.

In what ways do you think the 19 baja dwarfs a 29 Scarab? I know the beam is narrow on the scarab but the room seemed reasonable and peformance seemed good at 69-70 with twin small blocks.

29 Scarab has low freeboard and a large integrated platform (27 1/2 foot boat in reality).

Also, can't be had with twin big blocks. :( :(

As far as my boat, I'm giving serious consideration to getting out of boating entirely. Mrs Outlaw works every weekend now so I don't have a mate. This year I used it only 20 hours (last year only 25 hours). Plus I have a sore back, sore knees, and I'm not getting any younger. Everytime I use the boat it results in 2 hours of back-wrenching clean-up once I get home. If I was able to sell the boat I wouldn't mind replacing it with a cool car (Dodge Viper, etc). With a cool car you can race around in it all day, pull into the driveway at the end of the day, turn it off, and go take a nap. Not so with a boat. If I can't sell it, no big deal since I'm not itching for anything bigger. Plus it's an awesome boat and I'll continue to get my 20 hours of fun out of it.

The wind issue is not bad at
all, especially if your sitting in
the bolster.
engine options in 98' were
7.4 300 hp up to HP525's
Twin 385's will do what your
asking for.

any of the 3 above 29's would be a nice boat for you, I sold my last boat a 24ft H2X and moved up to a 29 outlaw with twin 454mag mpi's , I really enjoy the boat, the wind is not an issue on it unless you are standing with the drop down bolsters and still its not bad, has a big cabin for a 29ft boat you will really enjoy moving up, buy one you will be glad you did, also get a survey on it if you are looking at an older outlaw unless you know what you are looking for, my boat is a 97 and had the stringer issue, but it was repaired with the motor plate kit and had the stringers reinforced, the boat if done the right way will be better than new, also look for blisters on the bottom of the hull[ just like you would on any boat you would buy] so how much are you wanting to spend on a boat? insurance will be a little more also, but not to bad, good luck

29outlaw,

Don't be selling my boat to anyone other than me. LOL. Once my daughter starts regular school, I'm moving up. June of 2005 will mark her last month of preschool. Currently it cost me $400 plus a month for three days a week of preschool.

So keep my boat clean and the hours down. OK!

Don't worry. I could own that boat for 20 years and it would still look like it's never been used. All my stuff's that way.

When I traded in my old Dodge Ram for my current Dodge Ram the dealer couldn't believe it when he saw that the radio still had that plastic film over it like it comes from the factory.

Thanks guys. 80K is out of my price range right now. If I thought I could sell mine quickly I would talk a little more with TTB (Todd) His sounds like a noce boat. Took mine out for a while last night and had a good time, I just have that speed bug combine with 3footitus.

Don't give up yet. The selling price of mine drops $500 each month in accordance with the lower loan payoff I would have to make. This time next year - $74,000.

By the time bcoffield's ready to buy in June 2005 - $69,500.

Good point... And with ther only being another three or four weeks of boating here in Cincy I should wait and buy it just before spring.. It will be chaper. The wife mentioned how nice it would be to have a bold painted bigger faster boat several times last night while we were out testing a prop. This is the scarab we took out last week, someone on the board has one with the graphics and I saw another one in california on Ebay. I wonder who is going to hammer me for a scarab pic on the Baja list....

As far as 29 Scarabs go, I like that one. It has unusual graphics for a 29 and I like the white fairing vs. the glass window found on most.

I assume that is your boat in the background with the wave graphics. I've always liked those wave graphics that they had back then. In fact, it was those same wave graphics that caught my eye back then and made me want to buy a Baja.

Here is a picture of my ride. I appologize to all the other members who have seen this exact same picture posted about 100 times.

Yours has the graphics I like. I also like the alum trailer, no paint no rust, probably weighs a little less. Looks like a awesome boat. 79 on the GPS, now you have my attention.... here is another pic of mine.

I have a 1997 SST with twin 502 mags and ext. steering for 58,900

tssteph 09-22-2003 08:25 AM

Awesome boat, what kinds of speeds to you get with the 502 mags? Seems like a resonable price.

Brian
