29 Outlaw Power

I’m beginning to dream about getting a 29 outlaw, around a 2000 model year. Most I’ve found have 454’s. Is that enough juice or should I try to find a 454 mag or 502? What speeds have you all seen with these power options?

I’m new to the board and really appreciate all the knowledge shared here.

Thanks

I would stay away from 7.4's
454 mag=71
502 mag= 75
good luck

This is a tough crowd. These guys are never happy, and there is never enough power! You could come to this board with a 12' boat and a 525 installed and someone would say thats not enough!

:D :D Welcome to OSO!! :D :D

I have some exp. with the 29 and I hate to see someone pay that much for a twin that my old silgle 502 25 would smoke;) , you can find mags for the same money if you are patient, and have all the good internals and spin 5,000 instead of 4600

Ok, all I know about engines is bigger is better and better is more expensive! Did they produce a 454 and a 454 mag. What speeds from the plain 454?
I never seem to see any 29 outlaws with 502's for sale, maybe they're so happy with them they never sell.

502 mag is the way to go...just becuase you have the power, does not mean you need to use it all the time. Aswell, it will give you more resale options most likely...

I would not get a non Mag motor..., but that is me being picky I guess:D

Agreed, get at least 454 mags, where are you located?

I would say 7.4's would get you 65 tops,
This is the 29 I was poker running, I can put you in contact with the owner who I think wants to sell, it has 502's and runs a solid 75, needs a little work but could proably be bought forprobably low to mid fifties. the engines are 2001's

FlowerChild,

Welcome!:D

The 29 is a great choice and there are some really good buys out there.

A friend of mine on Norman just sold his 1994 Shooter and bought a 1998, 29 Outlaw with 454's and loves it.

Because it is longer and more capable in the rough he is now running faster than before, even though it is not the fastest boat on the lake. But he is a cruising type of guy that will get there when he gets there!

Buy all the power you can afford. Regardless of what you get, within a year or so you will want more. The plain 454 is not a good base to add blowers to. The 502's are awesome. I loved that one we had in our 272 and there is a lot you can do with them later.

Good luck and happy shopping!
