Baja Windscreen Material
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...714#post831714
anybody know what the windscreen is made of on the 302s or 29's. I started the above thread asking what was best to repair one. |
Frank,
I'm not really sure exactly what the windscreen material is. If you wish to call the company that makes our windscreens they should be able to help you with your repair. The company name is Spartech Marine located in Rockledge, FL. They can be reached at 321-636-7562. Please let us know if you need any further information. Thank you Customer Service Baja Marine Corporation ... instills lots of confidence huh, they were closed at 3:30 today.... |
It's acrylic. They also make the cabin galley and head. I'm cintacting them to see if they can make them for me and how much. Baja has no clue when you ask them. Just, "we make them custom".
Not a very knowlegable crew over there... production boats, what should we expect... |
|
Mine's in the custom shop now. He's cutting six inches off the old windshield, removing the glass and covering it with aluminum.

Does anyone know where I can still get a windscreen for a 302? I've contacted a Baja dealer and they seem to think there's a VERY slim chance that I'll still be able to get one. I called Spartech and they don't even want to talk to me. So I'm sorta stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
|
It's a catch 22. Baja can't get them or won't and Spartech won't make them for the public because they don't want to piss Baja off.
|
Yea I've got a couple people working on this, but I'm not sure if its going to happen or not. You'd think Spartech would've saved the molds just incase Baja might've needed one made, but what I've found with Baja is that once they quite making a boat 1 yr after they pretty much don't supply any parts for that boat. This industry needs to be like the auto industry where you can still get parts for at least 5yrs after the model is gone.
|
Still trying to get this done any help would be appreciated if someone has any info on it...
|
I have dealt with spartech before for some cabin door supplies and they were nothing but helpful , just thought i would let you guys know material was for a 89 Baja.

Dave,
Flip the script on Baja little. Put a little pressure on. Call them, and tell them that your 2003 302 was hit by another boat and the bow rammed it and completely shattered the windscreen, no repairs possible. Tell them you need to point the insurance company to a source for replacement. If they say not our problem, remind them that this is a 2003, and although they are not obligated to provide the windscreen, they ARE obligated to at least find a source available for replacement, as they took the profits when you bought the boat in the first place. And had you known, this is how the largest pboat manufacturer would treat replacement supplies on a 4 year old model, you would have given the business to someone else. You know whe you buy china dish sets they guarantee replacement stock for 15 years, you are at year 4 with this boat   If you want me to call, let me know, and give me the # P.S. Brian41 doesn't have one? Chris |

I know your boat would look sharp with a windscreen. They look good on the 38 Special.
Sorry, I know this doesn't help. If I hear of anyplace that makes stuff like that I call ya. |
I'm still working on this does anyone know someone to contact at Spartech that might help me other than the people in customer service? Or someone that has the capabilities to do a custom one from pictures and the boat?
I found out the real story on this when Baja's obligation for warranty was done they told Spartech to scrap the molds so that no more could be made or the molds couldn't get taken and used by someone. Thats real nice for the people like me that need one and can't get it. How many Baja's are out there with windscreens on them what happens when someone steps on one or something on those lines...GOOD luck to those that have windscreens cause I've never experienced something like this trying to get a part you'd think I was looking for the wiper for a 1909 Model T. If I was I could probably find that. |
I think their feeding you a line because I wasn't able to get anywhere with Baja in 2001 for a 1990 Baja then tried Spartech and they wouldn't talk either. I ended up talking to a SeaRay dealer (Skipper Buds in Coopersville, MI) and they ordered me a replacement windshield no problem (other than the price) I had it in a couple weeks and it came from Spartech. The full 3 piece windshield came to $2321.47
Good luck |

I guess when you buy your boat, you should have the dealer include a spare windshield, and any other Baja specific molded parts that might break in the sale. This operating mode isn't going to help Baja's depreciation any. Michael |
