It was a great day boating yesterday, boat ran perfect, my streak of eating impellars ended at 2 (port engine, sand, plastic bag...damn low water pickups) temp was 70 water was nice. Everything was going well until I clipped a curb making a left turn at 15 mph. Bent the axle. First time I have ever cut a left too tight. Oh well enjoy! :o

BTW, I drove it home 60 miles at 45 mph, scrubbed all the inner tread off the tire, it could not have made it another 10 miles.

wow at least it did not get the fender or damage the boat. still makes for a bad day.

Oh man, now that really sucks!

Do you have torsion axles on the trailer? Just wondering how easy they are to mess up?

I feel your pain, back about four of five years ago when we had the 21 Islander, I was pulling it out for the first time that season and clipped the fender on the side of our shop. Belt the hell out of it, but did not hurt the boat!

skygod 02-09-2004 09:40 PM

Yeah all 3 are torsion axles, it will cost $200 to fix and the trailer company is 30 miles away. I can fix the ding in the fender no problem. The ding in my pride is another story:(

That's why I carry a jack and two chains to tie up a axle if needed.

Tires will cost as much as the repair.

Trick/tip that was given to me by a trucker.

Luckily I have 6 new tires. I got Carlisle to warranty 6 new ones last year before the warranty expired. I had blown a couple before that, and they told me mine were a bad run. So tires are not a problem. I also carry a cheap 2 ton floor jack and some heavy duty straps, they sure come in handy. I had to change one of those Carlisle maypops with the Ford factory botle jack and it was not fun. We decided to drive it home slowly cause I had planned to change that tire anyway.

I carry a couple of Ratchet straps for the same reason....If I pull farther than 50 miles or so I carry my Big a$$ floor jack!

Carlisles

I'm wondering what size your tires were? Last summer on a trip to milwaukee I had six carlisles go bad and all they would do is give me $30 off each for new ones. The tires were less than two years old and had at most 2000 miles.

Allan4 02-18-2004 06:09 PM

I shredded 4 Carlilses in about 2 years and I said that is the end of that...

I run Goodyear tires now.

skygod 02-18-2004 07:51 PM

Yip Carlisles suck, but for free I took em! Carlisle is only about 40 miles from me so I went in person to complain.
