portable a/c

We’re thinking of upgrading to a 33 outlaw or 342 and the wife wants a/c.

Does anyone know anything about portable hand carried air conditioning units. I understand there are some that operate off the batteries. I wonder how quick they would drain the power when anchored? Any help is appreciated

I think very quick, I have a carryon that I might would sell if interested

Flowerchild,
I am not sure what you have but our 302 has factory air. I just ordered a EU2000i to run it.

Flowerchild 03-03-2004 07:52 PM

steel that looks great, how does it work?

Liquid...do you not like yours?

Steel Outlawed 03-03-2004 08:38 PM

Did you check out their website? It works off of a cooler with ice and it circulates water through the ice and then it goes through a heat exchanger and a fan blow air through the exchanger which make cold air. It works great and with the room in a 33 or 342 you should have o problem with space.

i LIKE IT, i JUST DONJN'T USE IT MUCH sorry

Liquid,

I may be interested in your portable AC. How much do you need for it?

liquid asset 03-15-2004 07:53 AM

I'll take 350 plus shipping, let me know if you want some pics

Highmark 03-15-2004 09:50 AM

How much are they new?

Please send or post some pics as well.

liquid asset 03-15-2004 01:01 PM

800 on sale, I have the canvas boot also, I'll get some pics, My wife always insists on a hotel at the last minute, so I'll sell it and put that towards something else, like stainless exaust tips on the new ride

Highmark 03-15-2004 01:10 PM

I'm mainly interested in a portable dc unit like mentioned above. Is yours a carry on AC unit? I made one of those out of a $100.00 room air conditioner.

Don't waste your money on that thing. I bought one and it sucks. If it is above 60 degrees in your cabin its useless, your ice melts to fast.

Highmark 03-16-2004 02:42 PM

Did you try ice in milk jugs or 2 liter bottles?

liquid asset 03-16-2004 07:34 PM

I would say about 40 or 50 pounds

bikinilover 03-17-2004 06:01 AM

Two 8lb bags of ice, in the bag, frozen!!

Outlawcowgirl 03-17-2004 12:45 PM

Did you try putting salt in the ice? Doesn't it make it colder or something. I got one of those koolerair things last season but I have never used it because I could not find the right cooler for it.

Highmark 03-17-2004 04:24 PM

I doubt it's very easy to get but what about dry ice in a sealed container? It suppose to melt faster but maybe a layer of it under the bags/containers of ice will last longer.

liquid asset 03-17-2004 08:02 PM

Sounds like a lot of trouble for ac, when you could spened a few hundred for portable or 1200 for installed ac

Highmark 03-18-2004 08:07 AM

Liquid, where can you get AC installed for $1200? I would do that in a heartbeat but since my boat wasn't ordered with it my dealer quoted me for over 4x's that with adding shore power. They claim the air unit is over $2000 alone.

Flowerchild 03-18-2004 09:20 AM

Steelware,
regarding the bayair a/c, I asked earlier, how does it work and what I meant was..does it work well?

I had visited their web site and am interested if it can keep it cool for more than one or two hours. Thanks for your help.

Steel Outlawed 03-18-2004 12:24 PM

It works really well. We can stay on the boat overnight in the summer without the ice running out. We usually freeze one gallon freezer bags solid and use those. I have a 24 quart cooler that we use.

liquid asset 03-18-2004 07:56 PM

I meant permenant, installed yorself, not including shore power. There is a place www.oceanbreezeac.com 9,000 btu with digital therma. for 1399 with every thing
